Yeah, I don't get that gimmick, either. Maybe it's to soften the jabs the film makes so folks can say, "Yeah, but..." It is weird that way and I think it's a weak device, but it's not the first film to do that.

Very true, I read a comparison to Dances With Wolves in that regard as well, which seems apt.

Personally, I don't care if Hollywood wants to keep making propaganda films, but I'm not interested in paying to watch them. It just seems that propaganda should be paid for by the people who are attempting to sway others to their viewpoint. So liberals should buy everyone tickets for Avatar...and if they throw in popcorn and $50 bucks for my time I'd go.

I am reminded of how the soldiers are portrayed in the vomitus that is Lions for Lambs, likable and well meaning but the movie practically screams....CHUMPS.

Really. You wonder if anyone in Hollywood would ever fight for anything if the remote possibility existed that they would come out looking like chumps.

Well, I can think of one thing where at least they're coming out looking like dunces: the Global Warming/Climate Change hoax.

I really wasn't concerned about the holes in the story as much as the parts that were completely filled in.

I hear you. I can't argue with it. They're there.

Also, nice how in the future the VA is still screwing over the troops.

In James Cameron's future, yes, sorry to say.

I’m surprised this review came from Kurt Loder, who I thought was a typical MTV lefty. When Pink Floyd’s uber-left opus “The Final Cut” came out in 1983, he gushed all over it in Rolling Stone.

I didn’t see it as racist at all. They didn’t portray the natives as backward, just different. The human had to lead because he was familiar with the military equipment, but the natives came off as intelligent, just in their own way. The only really bad guys were a corporate exec and a marine. The good guys were also human, a marine and a couple of scientists. It was just a struggle between good and evil, and it was human against human. I imagine that there are so many paralells to so many things, people will be reading into it for years. It’s worth a look, definately see it on the big screen, it’s quite an experience.

I appreciate your input. As I haven’t seen the movie I’m only relating some of the reviews I’ve seen. It’s interesting how much buzz (some good some bad) there is on this movie. I’d wager that the director can be nothing but happy his film is generating a reaction from a broad range of people.

You just have to go into it with an open mind. All the politics aside, if you are a fan of the visual arts, this movie is worth a look. It is a thing of beauty. :)
