Democrats Health Bill Passes Key Senate Vote Republicans pledge to fight on despite losing early Monday
WASHINGTON - Senate Democrats health care overhaul passed a key test in a party-line vote early Monday, in a dramatic defeat for Republicans that put the legislation on track for Christmas-week passage.
In the run-up to the vote, the escalation in rhetoric was remarkable on both sides of an issue that has divided the two political parties for months.
"This process is not legislation. This process is corruption," said Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., referring to the last-minute flurry of dealmaking that enabled Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and the White House to lock in the 60 votes needed to approve the legislation.
Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island responded in near-Biblical terms. In a speech on the Senate floor, he said Republicans are embarked on a "no-holds barred mission of propaganda, obstruction and fear. ... There will be a reckoning. There will come a day of judgment about who was telling the truth."
First 60-vote test coming up Whatever else it was, the legislation represented the culmination of a year's work for Democrats, pressed by President Barack Obama to remake the nation's health care system.

Emotion is a good servant but a poor master. If we had our revolution we’d be picked off one at a time. All it would take to turn these patriots is a 5,000 stimulus check. It’s not time, we’re too comfortable.
Just look at it. The people all like the same things whether they’re liberals or conservatives. They all like the same liberal musicians, watch the same liberal movies and shows, let the same Marxists educate their children, work at the same pointless jobs, go to the same McChurches, etc.
Until some of these things start to change, we won’t have our revolution.
Frustrated, but I'm in for the big win.
The lil emperor 0 must be so proud of himself this morning.
Psycho was my unit nickname. (101st Airborne) I hold it dear to my heart.
Do you really want that? I personally don’t want to see my daughters and pregnant wife huddled in a corner while a HUGE majority of our military, with their drones, are hunting for us.
Do you really want to turn your guns on your neighbor on co-workers?
I’m not saying it’s wrong to want a revolution but we have to realize what we’re asking for. It might be that living under a moderate tyrant is a little better than watching our children starve.
If the right people would stand up and say enough, senators, generals, governors, etc. we would have a chance to do it quickly. But if it’s just us, it would be like Chechnya.
We have an old saying among the Brothers in Arms (101st);
“The poor bastards have us surrounded!”
Trust me, all that money is going to them and theirs. F-your vote suckers!
Works well
It may be an old saying as you wrote, and a great one too. Classic.
I have also come to that conclusion as well. Some people are talking about 2010 and 2012. Ha! what a joke. Name me any Republican in any significant number that we can put in there.
elections in this country are a joke!!! We may have a few winners here and there but not enough to make a difference.
Never fear....the Bible says he who is a friend of Israel shall be blessed...Oh wait we have a Muslim for President....Good night America.
Well....looks like I’m going to have to feed the hogs after all. WHen the balloon goes up, there will be less liberals in my neighborhood.
Anyone doubt this would happen?
I realize I have more intuitive respect for a Mexican illegal alien, who seeks cash for labor in order to survive, than the vast majority of persons bearing the title of US Congressman.
Echos of 1932 . . . .
People wonder how seemingly sane Germans could follow the obviously insane Hitler. Maybe they just figured that "It might be that living under a moderate tyrant is a little better than watching our children starve."
I was predicting that Nelson would sell out. He’s just another politician right out of the machine - as most Democrats and Republicans are. Government ruined our health care system, so what’s the solution these freaks are proposing? MORE GOVERNMENT! Weeeeeeeee. WTF? Lolwut.
From the wise words of GK Chesterton...
“Once abolish the God and the government becomes the God”-Gk Chesterton
Very true. Like your tagline, btw. Good ticket idea.
Have a Blessed Christmas.
With gratitude, I turn to you, God, to receive spiritual guidance, communication, and direction. In the quietness of my Right-Mind, the place within me where our minds are joined as One, I listen to your Voice of wisdom and truth and I know what to do.
Yup. Thanks for correcting.
