The FN-SCAR is the obvious choice to replace it. FN already makes the superb machine guns the Army uses, and previously designed and manufactured the FN-FAL "the right arm of the free world", a weapon that was issued by something like 50 nations in world. (None commie, either).

So, they took all their knowledge and designed a modular weapons system that has both a .223 and .308 version.
