Senator Webb.....

Has Webb actually come out and announced his support for this monstrosity? Last I heard he was holed up in his office and not talking ~ I get the feeling that the MSM is trying to force this thing through as a “done deal” because they don’t want people to keep calling their representatives. There are several “squishy” moderates who know that their support will cost them dearly in 2010 and all that is necessary to stop the process is to pick off one....and Jim Webb is a loose cannon. He has spent his whole life looking for a fight and is one of the few people in DC who is not the least bit afraid of or impressed by the “Chicago way”.... I’m praying that the senator from Virgina will deliver a Christmas miracle and kill this thing!

University of Chicago Medical Center perhaps?

Couldn't be Illinois, as there are several med schools in the state.

Louisiana has 2 public medical schools. LSU Medical School in Shreveport and LSU in New Orleans are completely separate schools.

Sorry, but that dog don’t hunt. Virginia has three public medical schools.

The selection standard is far more complex than that. A state could have a hundred medical schools, but it's got to have medical, dental and research ~ and they've got to prove it by looking at interlocking boards of directors, state charters, etc.

The university system in Virginia is complex enough to prove anything you wish.

My guess: Missouri

Claire McCaskill hasn't been publicly paid off yet for her support.

Oops, you’re right. Virginia has only one university with both medical and dental schools, VCU in Richmond.

But from earlier comments on this thread, I take it that another ten states are in the same category. So even though I have a low opinion of Webb, I imagine it would take a lot more than one-eleventh of $100 million to buy his vote.

McCaskill will vote the way the Chicago thugs tell her if she knows what’s good for her. She doesn’t need paid off.

I think U of Iowa fits. Commie tommy Harkin has been the major mover behind this monstrosity—thus I suspect Harkin has his hands in the pie.

End of the day,the fact is these elected officials take my money and every other tax payers and use it to BRIBE people,BRIBE as in a CRIMINAL act. They may parse it any way they wish but at the end of the day they are CRIMINALS.
I’m sure rules could be written to prevent this sort of thing but we’ll be told that nothing will ever happen if they can’t ‘grease the wheels’.

Oregon, I’ll bet. Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, the sole medical school and dental school.

My thought also.

>> gots to have the research! <<

I don’t see how that could ever be a problem. Every medical school surely must have some kind of research project underway, at least every medical school that’s part of a university.

But if I’m wrong and some schools don’t do any research, they could just start projects tomorrow morning in order to qualify for this grant.

Research programs ordinarily require a FEDERAL GRANT as well as independent FOUNDATION SUPPORT, and often a NAME.

That's not an overnight deal.

There was a story earlier in the week that Nebraska had a hospital that could get some of the $$$$??? Could that be it? Does Nelson get more than we’re being told?

I would like to think Webb would do so. But he has a 95% liberal rating from Americans for Democratic Action, well into the Bolshevik range. He is as liberal as they come except for the Second Amendment. He cannot wait to vote for cloture, which is the whole ball game. He is dishonest enough to try to convince his state that he is independent minded when he is a reliable liberal vote, so he may vote for cloture and vote against the bill knowing cloture=passage. I would not count on that rumpswab.

That said, the press would eagerly follow anything Reid told them - after all they were saying Nelson had made no deal on Friday night, then reported Saturday or this AM that he shook hands on a deal Friday night. So he might not go along, he might not have been on board, there is a possibility - but I doubt it. Looks like the best chance to kill this is in committee.

If Reid doesn’t have the votes he is pursuing an extremely risky strategy bringing it to the floor. I do not think that he is that stupid.
