"The New Senator from Virginia may have gotten funding for one in Bristol, Va. There was a write up about their wanting funding a month are so back. LOL, they don't have enough doctoral and masters programs to qualify."

I thought about VA, but doesn't Virginia have more than one public medical school? Virginia and Virginia Tech both have medical schools, I think. The appropriation clearly states that the money is for a state with only one state medical and dental school.

“Bayh, also looks good. I can’t find another medical school in IN. Plus, although Bayh expressed some reservation about the bill early on, he went remarkably silent on the subject, and hasn’t said a word.”

But it also says it needs to be a “public research university” which I don’t see in IU website...

this fits the bill though;

University of Michigan

Ann Arbor, Dearborn, Flint — a public research university ... The text-only version contains the complete content and navigation of this page, ... U-M Health System · College of Pharmacy · Medical School · School of Dentistry ...

""(a) APPROPRIATION.—There are authorized to be appropriated, and there are appropriated to the Department of Health and Human Services, $100,000,000 for fiscal year 2010, to remain available for obligation until September 30, 2011, to be used for debt service on, or direct construction or renovation of, a health care facility that provides research, inpatient tertiary care, or outpatient clinical services. Such facility shall be affiliated with an academic health center at a public research university in The United States that contains a State’s sole public medical and dental school." "

First of all, I don't think any medical/dental school will ever see a cent of that money...I base that on the timing of the money, i.e.:

"...$100,000,000 for fiscal year 2010,..."
     What constitutes "fiscal year 2010"? When does that start? When does it end?

Why does it have "multiple choice" purposes, i.e.:
a) "...for debt service on..."
     "Debt Service" on WHAT?...the 2010 election campaign?
b) "...direct construction or renovation of A health care facility that,,,"
    A health facility? Which one? Just pick one as you drive down the street. How can the Congress of the United States be this haphazard in planning to spend $100,000,000 of taxpayer money? Do we HAVE to wait for the elections? Can we do "recalls" on those idiots that are in there now?

c) "...to remain available for obligation until September 30, 2011,"
     Ahhh,,,,just in time to pay off their union/acord "obligation" for the upcoming 2012 elections.

d) "Such facility shall be affiliated with an academic health center at a public research university in The United States that contains a State’s sole public medical and dental school."
&NBSP&NBSP&NBSP&NBSP Do you think you could be a little more vague there, Harry ol' boy?

The kenyan and his minions really do have the "most transparent administration" in history, anyone with an IQ over room temperature can see right through all of them.

No wonder they don’t “publish it on the internet for a week in advance” like POtuS said they would...

FY 2010 started on October 1, 2009. This appropriation is good through all of FY 2010 and FY 2011.

Virginia Tech, currently has a private partnership medical school suppose to open in fall of 2010. They have a Veterinary school, and a nurse Practitioner program currently. The money could be for a building for them.

Barry has broken so many promises, Pinocchio would be envious. That had been a Rep. president, the lamearse libtard media would be making his/her “promises” into another “Read my lips, no new taxes” moment.....which they rightly should be doing with Barry.

The anger I have been experiencing the last few months is frightening. I wish bad, bad things on many of these politicians on a near daily basis. Grrr!

I might be wrong, but after you clear all the hurdles, there will be only one place (like MI) that meets ALL the criteria;

1. $100,000,000 for fiscal year 2010 (ready to build)
2. provides research, inpatient tertiary care, or outpatient clinical services
3. academic health center
4. public research university
5. State’s sole PUBLIC medical and dental school

Isn’t this what they did in the house, describing one and only projects by narrow definitions so it could only go to one place? Can’t think of it now...

I’m calling my governor and leaving messages asking him if he is going to allow the citizens of his red state (both of whose senators are voting against this, as represents the will of their people) to subsidise the citizens of other states whose senators sold their vote against the wishes of their citizens. Or for that matter if there’s any stand he can make against allowing us to be extorted by being forced to buy mandated insurance.

IU is absolutely a public research university - all university hospitals are research institutions, and IU is a public university. I'm not aware of any other public medical schools in IN.

Could be it, then...seems almost too cheap, though...does it meet the other criteria? Of course, this GD thing is sure to be FULL of this kind of crap...

Virginia has 2 public medical schools: University of Virginia and Virginia Commonwealth University. VCU has the only dental school in the state.

We also have a private medical school: Eastern Virginia Medical School. The Tech med school is a public/private partnership. There is also talk of a med school going in at Fairfax.

I don’t think Va. is this earmark unless the language could be construed as the state’s only public medical school and/or dental school.
