Former DA Earle running for Lt. Gov. [Texas]

Former DA Earle running for Lt. Gov.

Former Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle is running for lieutenant governor of Texas.

Earle, who retired last year after more than three decades as district attorney, filed paperwork with the Texas Democratic Party late Friday to seek the party’s nomination for the statewide office. The winner of the Democratic primary in March will probably face the Republican incumbent David Dewhurst next fall.

At this point, Earle is the sole filer for the party’s nomination, but Austin deli owner Marc Katz is also planning to run, a campaign spokeswoman said Friday.

Labor leader Linda Chavez-Thompson is also considering a bid. She was out of the country on Friday and not available for comment.

Earle brings a higher profile than the other potential candidates after a career of noteworthy and notorious prosecutions that drew attention far beyond Travis County, including the still-pending case against GOP powerhouse Tom DeLay.

Earlier this year, Earle said he was considering running for either governor or attorney general.

Earle has not yet returned a call for comment.

This could be the final nail in his political coffin.

This could be a Texas sized payback time for a hack DA who singles out Republicans for politically motivated prosecutions.

It’s Perry vs. KayBee Hutchison. In other words, not much of a choice at all. I gave a teeth-grinding endorsement to Gov. Goodhair, but not a positive affirmation, since Kay is worse.

The Rats are making this next election cycle easy for me.

I will be voting in the Democrat Primary this time.

AGAINST Bill White
AGAINST Ronnie Earle
AGAINST Kinky Friedman
AGAINST all encumbant Democrats on the ballot

Ronnie Earle abused his position as a DA. He should never be allowed to hold another public office. I will contribute to any Republican opposing him for whatever office he is pursuing.

“I will be voting in the Democrat Primary this time.”

I do understand your reasoning behind this move, yet I would counsel you to not handcuff yourself to that action...

From what has been said in the past about this type of chicanery, I believe you will not be able to vote in the “regular” election for Republicans (conservatives) if you do this in the primary...

But I guess I need to make sure that is true, since this is only a “state” (mid-term) election I may be wrong about this, I am basing this on the general election rules regarding these crossover votes...

Someone will probably beat me to it, but that is what I understand it to be...

I stand to be corrected, but you may want to check on it before you vote in the other parties primary...

Texas is a pick your party on primary day in which you want to vote. Both primaries are on the same day and if there is any runoffs you can only vote in the primary runoffs for the party in which the orginal primary you chose to vote in. However on general election day you can vote for any candidate of the group on the ballot for that slot you are voting. Example, Governor will have at least a democrat and republican and probably others such as independents or libertarians and you can chose between them or write in if approved.

Well...Okayyyyyy...

I would just prefer to do my business in the party of my choice, and not worry too much about what the opposition does, and let the regular election take care of this guy at that time...

Personally, I don’t believe Earle will survive either process...

Crossing parties is what basically gave us McCain in some instances, and ultimately Obama...Now we are dragging that political manuevering down to the state level...

Just my opinion...

My votes are more than just to “make sure they don’t get in”, they are to say FYall to the lot of them. Kinky Friedman sold out to Jim Hightower and dropped out of the race to clear the path for Bill White. Screw him for this act. He may not have had a genuine chance at winning the nomination, but now White faces no competition (a Palestinian “millionaire” “hairdresser” doesn’t stand much chance).

Ronnie Earle pulled the same crap as that prosecutor Nifong. Keep this man out of government and send him behind bars.

And voting against every incumbant Democrat in the state in the primary is a matter of principle.

I hear you on the issue of maybe not being able to vote in the GOP primary in 2012 but I don’t see that being the case (and our primary came SO late last time that we had no influence on the presidential nominations unlike Iowa and New Hampshire). States which didn’t even HAVE Democrat presidential primaries (Florida and Michigan) encouraged Rats to vote in the GOP primaries to have a say in presidential races.

And for the record, I think that each year you can flip flop between the primaries, the only limiting factor is in which primary runoff you may vote in. Lynn Ashby editor of the Houston Post bragged that he used to vote in alternate years for both party primaries so that he’d be on the mailing list for as many candidates as possible.

Many decades ago when the Texas GOP didn’t stand much chance in the office races, by dad would vote as a Democrat because all of the decision for who would ultimately win the offices was made in the primary.

Well...I see the angle you would like to exploit in the next election cycle...I’m not saying I dissagree with you, but you are only one person, and I am concerned you will not be in a large number of “voters” that willdo much to scrog the oppositions slate of candidates...

I’m only suggesting you have some time to think about this before March 2nd...

Just give it some time, think about it...I figure a lot of this has to do with the big vote coming up...

Let’s give them one more chance to get their act together...If it looks like we don’t make up considerable ground, and our influence in the party seems to be cast aside, then hell, I may be joining a lot of conservatives looking for some alternatives...

At which point what difference does it make...right??? hehehe

Earles’ going to get smashed in any state-wide election...He’s pizzed off too many people on both sides of the aisle...

Dewhurst will kick his liberal ass. Travis County will be his only stronghold. Earle is a punk puke democrap. I detest him. I loathe him.
