To beat Nelson, or anybody, you need a top tier candidate. Who fits the bill and will run against him?
Maybe Rep. Jeff Fortenberry could do it. He represents the Lincoln area, and it’d be good to have someone known in at least one of the major metro areas.
If Nelson was/is an idealogue this would be understandable.

How are the dems capable of putting together voting coalitions that get these pukes elected? After all it’s not like Illinois where you get a huge plurality of votes coming out of Cook County that is difficult if not impossible to overcome.

The U.S. Constitution provides for Senators to be elected to 6-year terms, and the only clause that provides for cutting short a Senator’s term is in Article I, in which each house may expel a member by a 2/3 vote. Several states have approved laws that purported to allow voters to recall members of Congress (I have no idea whether Nebraska is one of those states), but courts have made clear that recall votes for members of Congress do not have the force of law. The only bite that such recalls may have is if the member of Congress in question had earlier pledged to resign if recalled; while such member could go back on his word and not resign, it would but him in a difficult situation when he’s up for reelection.
We’ll vote out Ben Nelson in 2012 and retake the Senate (after retaking the House in 2010). I hope that Congressman Fortenberry (a 100% conservative) runs.

Recall of federal officials is Constitutionally forbidden. He can only be removed by the ballot box or impeached by his fellow Senators.
We have Mike Johanns there now. Gov. Dave Heineman should replace Nelson.

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t the Feds seize that and it failed again. they can’t even run a house of ill repute and make a go of it.
Rush must have some behind the scenes polling and/or other info — he said last week that if Ben Nelson votes for this disaster, he is finished. Either he retires, because he sees he the handwriting on the wall, or he runs, and he will get shellacked.
Some states allow recall elections for Senators. And that is what I was referring to—It is perfectly legal where state constitution permits it.
Can we initiate recall elections for as many as possible who voted in favor of the health care bills in both houses?

Maybe. The Balanced Budget Amendment had a 3/5 of Congress can can waive it clause. And a "national security" exception. Ie if there's a declared war or a "military conflict which causes an imminent and serious military threat to national security and is so declared by a joint resolution," just a majority of Congress can vote to waive the amendment.
Doubtlessly Afghanistan would be used as an excuse.
That punk Nelson deserves to get exactly as many votes Nebraska in 2012 as his master gets.
From what I know Heineman is one of our better Governors. Maybe he should be considered for the national ticket.
Nelson got some special favors for Nebraska in exchange for this, so I have no idea what the local reaction will be. Nelson won easily in 2006 against a Republican who spent a ton of his own money.
Electorally, Nelson has wavered between winning by landslides and barely winning cliffhangers.
There is no state in the country where it is Constitutionally permissable to “recall” a federal elected official. Even if a given state were to pass such a law, it cannot supercede the U.S. Constitution and would be ruled unconstitutional and struck down (and hence, not “perfectly legal”).
