Funny, that's already happened.
The Constitution is only as binding as the will of the People to enforce it.
So what side are you on, the elitist form of government or those who still believe in the Constitution, which has allowed more direct influence by citizens through the amendment process?
I think what we have is an elitist form of government. As long as we've got it, I'm on the less-gubmint side. But I don't believe in the Constitution. I think 200 years have demonstrated the worthiness of the Constitution. In the long run, I'm for something better. What exactly that is, I am not quite sure. But I don't think it's crazy to think there's something better. As for amendments, I think there is so much wrong with the Constitution, and with the centuries of SCOTUS jurisprudence enacted under it, that you might as well start from scratch.
And by the way, in practice, I am as pragmatic as the next guy. I voted for McCain, after all. I’m just looking at the big picture, for what it’s worth.
