Then surely these gangs are performing a public service by advertising their presence by tagging? Would it be better if they didn’t tag and you could stumble into their neighborhoods and get killed without any warning at all?

Make no mistake: I am opposed to tagging and I do not like gangs or the crime that comes along with them. Tagging is a part of the intimidation that gangs perpetrate on neighborhoods. It’s all part of their “package”.

That said, Tags are a fantastically convenient sign that a neighborhood has a crime problem. In my view, gangs would be much smarter not to advertise their presence in this fashion.

Oh well, it makes my task much, much easier.
