Immigration screening launches today in city jails (Mayor White is running for governor now y'see)

Houston Mayor Bill White will officially launch a fingerprint-based immigration screening program in the city's jails today, fulfilling his pledge to have the system up and running by the time he leaves office.

...the outgoing mayor and Texas gubernatorial candidate, has faced harsh criticism for perceived flip-flopping on the issue of immigration enforcement in the jails. He previously requested to have the city participate in the controversial 287(g) program that would have trained officers to help Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents screen for illegal immigrants in the jails, but he backed away from that proposal after negotiations with the federal government broke down.

...White opted for the Secure Communities program, which automatically checks the fingerprints of suspects booked into the city jails against a federal immigration database and notifies ICE when suspects have an immigration history...

Under 287(g), jailers are trained to assist ICE agents in identifying suspected illegal immigrants based not only on their fingerprint history, but also on how they respond to questioning about their status. Local authorities also are trained to file paperwork to detain suspected illegal immigrants through 287(g), but not through Secure Communities. Technical issues stalled for months the implementation of Secure Communities, city officials said, though White said he planned to have the system working by January...

Mayor-elect Annise Parker said on the campaign trail that she backs 287(g) and Secure Communities, which are both in place in Harris County's jails. Parker spokeswoman Janice Evans-Davis said Wednesday that Parker was not available for comment on Secure Communities but that her position had not changed on the immigration screening issue...

Curtis Collier, head of the Spring-based U.S. Border Watch organization... said the Secure Communities system will only flag illegal immigrants who are already on ICE's radar, not those who lack immigration histories in the system...

Entering the final year of 3 terms as mayor and this Clintonista Rat "decides" to do what the Feds have been wanting (but ours is a safe harbor city for illegals, you see).

Now that Kinky Friedman has dropped out of the Democrat Governor's primary, his own opponent is a Palestinian born hairdresser product businessman. He's a shoe in for the Democrat ticket. And so of course now he's got to run to the middle, be tough on crime, and illegal immigration.

Sorry, ain't buying it. Too little too late.

I am a big fan of the hair care product guy, except for the obvious defect. He sounds like a real, common sense business man.

I hope he is a Christian, so I can vote for him, or at least an Episcopalian

He's reportedly on a board urging a two-state solution in Israel and that same group, while it claims to stand unequivocally opposed to terrorism did send representatives to Arafat's funeral.

Bill Whiteuis very concerned about illegal aliens in our midst only because this is an election year and he seeks higher office.

The rape, murder, and theft illegals commit is not a factor for Mr. White, except insofar as the election is concerned. That makes him just one more liberal @ssclown who is willing to climb to high office on the corpses of dead Americans.

In another time that would've been called treason.

Kind of like the way politicians rally around the border fence and then pull support after the election.

Doesn’t matter to his pasty ass. He blew into town after his term in the Clinton administration and just like Lee P. Brown, he’s blowing out of town for a job elsewhere (Austin in the governor’s mansion or DC in the Senate)

I’ve come up with the perfect solution that satisfies everyone. Mexico cedes the country to conservatives and we all move there. All the Mexicans move to the US, and Zero grants them amnesty. We get to secede and don’t have to have CW II for our freedom, and the Democrats get permanent power in what will rapidly become Mexico North, in all senses of the term. We then build a 50,000 volt 50 foot high / 50 foot deep fence to keep out the liberals FOREVER, and institute a government program to give everyone who isn’t crazy or criminal a fully automatic weapon so that we have a strong militia to repel the invaders from where ever. Everybody gets happy.

Especially the Guatemalans. Because the racist Mexicans won’t be around to discriminate against them anymore.

I few police officers in this city have either been murdered or seriously injured by illegals aliens in this city on his watch...

Not to mention innocent “citizens” being victimized every single day in the same timeframe...

A fact that needs to be exploited by his opposition when the primaries are over in March...
