Gun Arrests Galore, No Convictions At All
Philadelphia Inquirer ^ | 12/16/2009 | staff

Posted on 12/16/2009 5:54:00 AM PST by Kid Shelleen

Just 23 years old, John Gassew has been arrested 44 times, mostly on charges of sticking a gun in people's faces and robbing them.

But in the eyes of the law, Gassew isn't an armed robber. ---snip---

“There's a law on the books that enhances the penalty when you commit a crime with a gun. It's not enforced,“ noted Ramsey, referring to the state's mandatory minimum five-year sentence for brandishing a firearm in the commission of a felony.

“There's no disincentive to carry a gun,“ Ramsey said. “Why wouldn't you carry a gun?“

One result: Among the 10 largest cities in the nation, Philadelphians are the most likely to be robbed at gunpoint.

And I’ll bet you the mayor and the chief of the PD are in Bloomberg’s club.

Clearly the answer is more anti-gun laws.

But on a more serious note, who's job is it to enforce these laws? Why isn't this person doing it? Why do the people put up with it?

Duh, why not just make the penalties tougher for the crimes committed (felony robbery, theft, murder, etc.)?

Why is it that you never hear of armed robbery on the streets of Boise, Idaho, Missoula, Montana, or Monroe, Louisiana? Because perps in those places know they will be BLOWN AWAY if they try it.

Often when there is a shooting and an innocent person, usually a child, is killed, then community leaders come out and rally and call for an end to the violence. This accomplishes zip. Just maybe if they were to insist that laws be obeyed and enforced, then there would be real change. But continuing to elect left wing Demo mayors and city councils means they are condemned to the status quo.

Someday, John Gassew is going to try to rob a white guy from the suburbs who doesn’t give a crap about Philly’s gun laws. A white guy who has a concealed weapon. When that day comes, Gassew is going to be pushing up daisies and, hopefully, the guy from the suburbs will never be found by the police....both the Philadelphia police and the PC police.

okay. Who's shi__ing who here. The article says nothing about 'The Eyes of The Law', 'armed robber' or all the Gun Charges.

In any case it sure seems like the Cops are doing the job but the Judges this mutt comes in front of let him go. And forget Philly's local gun laws. If they wanted to, on any felony committed with a firearm, they could turn it over to the Feds to prosecute.

Chicago has the same 'problem'. Almost NO 'gun crimes' get turned over to the Feds(1). And that's solely Mayor Richie Daley's doing. These criminals have families that VOTE. So he doesn't want Tyronne sitting in a Fed prison for 15 years and his grandma or auntie mad at him.

(1) A few years back I think I heard it was 2% of 'gun crimes' Chi turns over to the Feds to prosecute. And the Feds WANT to prosecute these mutts!

If things are this bad now in big cities, imagine the result from any number of economic shocks; any kind of civil emergency of any duration and people would be eating one another in Philly and elsewhere....

Well, when you got people like these NBPP members intimidating the voting citizens of Philly, without facing charges, it's not surprising that Philadelphia is in the condition it is.

We do have some armed robbery here in Boise, but it's so rare that it's newsworthy when it happens. There are a lot of CCW holders in this area. :^)

Pa.’s right to carry applies to Philly.

That's true - however you won't find the Inky, City Paper, KYW, WPVI, et al, or even Fox29 trumpeting that fact. They all do everything to maintain the fiction that the Cops are just a phone call away, and are there to fully protect you from the bad guys. As I recall, the NRA made a big deal along with 'America's Mayor' Fast Eddie that put that 5 year provision in place. Lot of good it does if not invoked as applicable!

This is excellent. Now if you shoot someone in self defense in Filthy, just tell the cops that you were mugging the guy. Make sure you steal the guy’s wallet before they get there, so they know you are not telling lies. Otherwise, they might think you were the victim and then they might arrest you.

Florida’s Stand Your Ground law makes you immune from prosecution and civil suit for self defense, but Filthydelphia’s new policy will even let you turn a profit from the deed.

How cool is that?

Despite being called one of the city's more prolific, and sometimes violent, stickup men by police - they say he bashed a delivery man over the head with a bat, shot at a 13-year-old neighbor, and smashed in the face of a robbery victim - Gassew has been sentenced to jail only once, for a drug charge.

Glad to see priorities at work here. < /s>

Let me guess.....he's a minority.

If I (a white guy with a CCW) even brandish my weapon, I'll be in the klink.

What an effin country we have be become.

Get your guns and ammo now.

I wonder if either of these two “gentlemen” could hit the ground if they pulled the trigger on those revolvers? They just have the look of honest, hard worker gun control types.
(When are we going to wake up and jail A**holes like this when they walk outside?)
