Why? The Birchers I know are good, honest, patriotic people.

“The Birchers I know are good, honest, patriotic people.”

I think that is overall true.

They have, however, been over-the-top on a number of issues, and certain of their key members (outside Birch functions) espouse some, if not anti-semetic and anti-Roman Catholic positions, positiosn that are so close that I can barely tell the difference.

Regardless, the JB are a damaged brand and any association with them will harm CPAC.

My experience over many decades is that the John Birch Society is filled with a bunch of wacko extremists. The Founder of the JBS (Welch) called President Eisenhower a communist stooge. Prompting the resignation of conservatives like Bill Buckley and Russell Kirk. Even Barry Goldwater distanced himself from JBS.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see that nutzies like Ron Paul, Thomas DiLorenzo, Lew Rockwell are members of JBS. Along with the late Reagan hater, Murry Rothbard.

I say, no thanks to JBS!

I, too, am confused over the condemnation of the JBS by many here.

I’ve never been a member of the JBS. But when I was serving in the Russian Maritime Region, John McMannus sent me two books at no charge, and I learned more about the corruption of the UNO than I had eve known previously. After reading the JBS books, I saw a lot of the information confirmed by many non-JBS authors.

Just about my closest Russian friend was an old radio engineer who had worked on surveillance (say, “spy”) ships off the USA west coast in the 1960s. This man was converted to Christ in 1995. After I would read the JBS books, he would read them. He would confirm to me what the JBS had to say about communism and Russia, and was always asking me for more books.

What is the beef so many have with JBS?
