The world has only seven years before climate change causes a “point of crisis” that will drive food shortages, terrorism and poverty, the Prince of Wales has warned.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the ministerial segment of the Copenhagen climate conference, the Prince said the “survival of the species” was in peril.
The talks have been dogged by walk-outs and protests as the poor world becomes increasingly frustrated at the lack of refusal by richer countries to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
Yesterday Yvo de Boer, the head of negotiations, admitted things are moving “too slowly” as pressure grew on the world’s two biggest emitters China and the US to compromise over cutting carbon emissions and committing money to climate change.
Prince Charles said world leaders owe it to “our children and grand children” to make a difference.
“The future of mankind can be assured only if we rediscover ways in which to live as a part of nature, not apart from her,” he said. “The grim reality is that our planet has reached a point of crisis and we have only seven years before we lose the levers of control.”
He pointed out that climate change is a “risk multiplier”.
“Reducing poverty, increasing food production, combating terrorism and sustaining economic development are all vital priorities, but it is increasingly clear how rapid climate change will make them even more difficult to address,” he warned.
The Prince, who flew in by private jet, joined Arnold Schwarzenegger the Governor of California and Al Gore, the former US Senator, who also flew in to add impetus to the talks.

No, the poorer countries ate frustrated and other countries wealth and want you to experience poverty and terrorism like they do on a daily basis.

No, the poorer countries are frustrated at the wealth of other and want you to experience poverty and terrorism like they do on a daily basis as a poor country.
I’ve been meaning to ask this for a while. It seems to me that the biosphere of our planet has been deprived of carbon by locking it away in bio-unanavailable oil, coal and Nat gas deposits. It seems to me that if man found a new energy source, completely divorced from carbon, that the environmentally responsible thing would to dig up all that carbon and burn it anyway.
Maybe the mega fauna went away because there was no longer enough bio-available carbon to support them. Maybe it is man’s purpose to dig that stuff up and return it to the biosphere.
I say dig the stuff up and burn it, means more food for everyone. This idea of sequestering it is nuts. I had 300 pounds of sequestered carbon running through my back yard last week.
It’ll start in the oceans and the trees., larger animals will follow. So lets make it a national priority to excavate that material and burn it, even if we don’t get anything usable from it.
The Prince should lead by example. Giving up all estates and posh living and being ‘one’ with nature. Yeah, that’s gonna happen. Oh, he meant all of ‘us’. Serfs. ;)
Changing ‘Global Warming’ to ‘Climate Change’ is an admission of failure. The theory was that CO2 was causing a greenhouse effect. The theory was bogus. ‘Climate Change’ is a catch all...no mater what happens it is ‘Climate Change’.
Pretty obvious why his mama is training Prince William as her successor.
As soon as my carbon footprint reaches that of Al, Arnold or Charles, I'll likewise speak out telling other people that THEY must cut THEIR carbon footprint.
