During World War II, the Germans would throw you into a POW camp free of charge. Today, POW Escapes will sell you the experience of spending a week in a newly-constructed Luftwaffe prisoner of war facility for just $3,500. For a short time, you will feel what it was like for airmen captured and held captive by the Lufwaffe during the war.
$3,500 buys you a sightseeing tour of the Jewish Ghetto and Nazi installations, a week in the camp, your meals, a POW camp uniform, recreated documents and a liberation dinner at the end of your stay where your "performance" will be graded (and where you might be branded a collaborator if you fail to remain in-character or you betray your mates.)
From the website: At some point during your intelligence gathering (the tour), an informer will tip off the Germans and you will be arrested by the Gestapo as a spy and forced to change into uniform. You will then be taken away for interrogation and your Polish helpers will be "shot". Following your interrogation, you will be taken to Stalag Luft XIX where you will be held captive.
"POW Escapes offers you the unique opportunity to travel back through time to World War Two for a totally authentic war-time experience."
"Please note that this experience is only available for men - unfortunately we cannot accommodate women for obvious reasons."
"At no time will you be allowed to break character, and at no time will any of our staff break character.... We dedicate this site to those brave captured men and we hope that this experience will help others appreciate something of what those men went through after they were captured while fighting for our freedom."
Airfare to Warsaw is not included.
I guess it’s better than the “Colonel Bogey March” from “Bridge on the River Kwai”...

“We’re going to be a busy couple gravediggers”
William Holden saved it. And watching it again costs a lot less than flying around the world to be abused.
“HoooOOOOOGAN!!! What are you doing with my camp?”
“Herr Colonel, I know nothing, nothing.”
“Hey! Wanna watch a movie?”
I have walked just about all of the Civil War battlefields east of the Mississippi.
In particular I remember a foggy morning when I followed the path the Union attackers took to attack Lee's entrenchments at Spotsylvania, I was moved almost to tears by the time I reached the battle line.
But I do not hold with dressing up and playing soldier, I think it's disrespectful of those who gave their lives, and I've had several heated arguments with CW "re-enactors" about this.
Dress-up play as a POW strikes me the same way.
