Walkout heightens failure fears for climate marathon
2009-12-14

COPENHAGEN (AFP) - Negotiators worked through the night Tuesday to prevent a UN climate summit from ending in catastrophic failure after developing nations staged a five-hour walkout and China accused the West of trickery.

As the White House said Barack Obama wants a deal that imposes "meaningful steps" to combat global warming, ministers admitted they had to start making giant strides before 120 heads of state arrived for the summit's climax Friday.

But their hopes were hit when Africa led a boycott by developing nations of working groups, only returning after securing guarantees the summit would not sideline talks about the future of the Kyoto Protocol.

That core emissions-curbing treaty ties rich countries that have ratified it to binding emissions curbs, but not developing nations.

It does not include the United States, which says the Protocol is unfair as the binding targets do not apply to developing giants that are already huge emitters of greenhouse gases.

The walkout delivered another blow to the summit, which has already been marred by spats between China and the United States.

The White House said President Obama, who is due to address the conference on Friday, was "committed to pursuing an accord that requires countries to take meaningful steps," but acknowledged there was a great deal of work to be done.

Barack Obama wants a deal that imposes "meaningful steps"

Is that for Deathcare™ or global warming?

His last trip to Copenhagen worked out really well. Hope this one is even more of a disaster. He should bring that TV hostess and Michelle also.

A bunch of people bickering and bartering over a hoax. They’re bigger fools than the ‘flat earth’ people. All these years later and they’re no smarter than that. Mixed with some old fashioned money grabbing.

Lord, let them fail.

Just saw the Hall of Presidents in Disney, first since zero added. What a pity his carcass has to shame the exhibit.

I am thinking that at it has reached the point, primarily because of the Climategate, that most participants are hoping the Copenhagen thing degenerates into a morass of total confusion that everyone can back away from, pointing fingers at each other and shifting so much blame around that nobody has to take any responsibility for the mess.

As I said in an earlier post, there is no way you are going to get China or India to sign off on anything that is going to disrupt their economies. Nor are they going to be tricked like the Western nations into buying the horse manure the IPCC and Goreons have been pushing.

They have their own scientists, their own computers and can run the figures. They know - they HAVE to know - it’s garbage.

Nor will the scientists in China have any inclination to backstop the IPCC. Can you imagine what China would do to a scientist on government pay who was caught falsifying data about something like this?

He would be lucky if they just shot him.

Sort of reminds me of the story (now banned for political incorrectness, but instructive nonetheless) of Little Black Sambo, in which the tigers who are all intent on eating Sambo end up chasing each other around in circles so hard and so fast that they churn themselves into butter.

Churn yourselves away, bastards!

The flat earthers may be fools too but they have a lot more integrity than the warmists cuz they stand only to be ridiculed and not make a cent off of it, plus they are not trying to control everyone in the world and tax them. The warmists on the other hand are damnable fascist scum.

Axiom #43 of the Rules of Bureaucracies:

When everyone is responsible for an egregious blunder, nobody is responsible.

Works most of the time.
