WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Winchester Ammunition was recently awarded a contract by the Immigration, Customs and Enforcement (ICE) division of the Department of Homeland Security to supply a maximum of 200 million, 40 cal. rounds over the next five years.
The load selected for this contract is a 135-grain, hollow point designed for the office of Field Operations of Customs and Border Protection. It will fall under the Winchester Ranger line.
I think the Wolf Gold is actually made in Serbia.
I got some of their 30 carbine. Good Quality
The Russian produced stuff is elcheapo but the Serb contract stuff is fine
To have a round for anyone who will support and defend the Constitution from all enemies, both foreign and domestic..
The way everyone was buying and hording the past year or so, ammo bubble has probably popped...Seems most everything is becoming available, with some reduced prices...Ya knew this was coming.
My Brother had one in 9mm Luger plus the regular barrel. He said the mags fed fine but I would be a little worried as the overall length of the Tokarev is quite a but more than the 9mm.
After he died, I guess his Son has it now and he too is a shooter.
I wonder if anyone has done any experiments using say 147 gr. bullets loaded way out which should leave plenty of air space for powder. A person should be able to get some near magnum power loads. Of course you would have to separate them from your other 9mm as they would not fit in a regular mag.
I am pretty sure the pistol would take the power as the CZ ammo was quite a bit hotter than Russian Tokarev.
I almost bought a PPsh
But gosh it was huge and heavy for a lil carbine.
Still, its a grand idea
I was happily surprised when those 90gr jhps expanded to .60, the same as my 9mm jhps. The only difference was the smaller caliber of the base sticking out of the back of the flattened mushrooms. Great bullets for the money.
I carry it as a "car gun" with some mags in both JHP and FMJ. If I ever need to shoot through a barrier (like a car) I'll just use the FMJ. Terrific penetrator.
“fits my hand better”
And that is key! Really doesn’t matter what cal you carry compared to other factors. A firearm that fits your hand and you PRACTICE with is far superior to one loaded with technically “stronger” rounds that isn’t comfortable to handle and/or you don’t practice with. After all, if the awfulness happens and your adrenalin is pumping, being effective with your self-defense weapon is key!
Now, given that, if you (as apparently are many freepers) are comfortable with many options, the technicals do matter.
I know you can swap barrels for 9mm, but I don’t know why you would, when Tokarev ammo is so damn cheap and plentiful.
I’ve heard reliability might suffer, since the shorter 9mm has to jump forward out of the longer mag, but I have no personal experience.
So I should be expecting a nice package of ammo at my house, when exactly? I am responsible for my home land security.
I think Kel-Tec could change out one of their nifty little carbines for the Tokarev cartridge in about a month, if they wanted too.
I’d buy several! That would be one flat-shooting little sumbitch in a 6# package.
That Romanian is a hoot at 1644 fps and steel core, but kinda limited in the real world.
Still I wish I had bought a dozen cans at 50 bucks. Its a good varmit round out to 75 yards or so
BTW if you could just get your hands on them Serb Optics...
I am so mad I didn’t buy a M76 when they where available.
Sorry to hijack the thread with ComBlock stuff
Makes more sense as a carbine than 9mm
There’s no such thing as hijacking a gun thread. They go where they go.
G’night!
If I remeber correctly, when everyone was making a mad dash for the 9mm, the FBI wanted something a bit more substantial. The 38 special and 357 mag are all right, but one gets tired of the flash and recoil in a wheel gun.
In a sense the 40 was a good idea ... nominal 135 grain that could be pushed I think to 160. It gave a bit more confidene in knock down power compared to the 9mm, but still kept the benefit of being lightweight and larger capacity magazines.
The drawback .. unless something has changed, the 40 has the notoriety for weak cartridges and relatively high pressures ...the bottom portion is not adeqately supported by some handguns, particularly glock. Makes for a nasty surprise, oftimes blowing the magazine out of the gun and somtimes worse. I don’t ever recall anyone being injured though.
All of that for another gubmint agency ... It isn’t a shock that the 45 acp is the round everybody seems to return to. Stopping power that is never questioned. Reliabiltiy .. unmatched. Availability .... well until recently .. sigh ...
A lot of ccw’s carry the 9mm for size and high number of rounds. I stick with the 45 and now carry a Sig p220 elite. Perfect sized and weight and ultra reliability without sacrficing rounds (8 + 1) If I need more than that, Oh well .. I hate carrying a spare magazine. It ‘s why I spend time on the range. 1 to knock down, 2 for insuance. I believe in efficiency.
Case blow out is all Glock
That wont happen in CZ or Sig or SW
They chose to open up the ramp for reliability of feeding, but that sucks when a case ruptures and blows the mag out.
Ive seen it happen twice.
Agreed on the XTPs. Scary awesome round, esp if looking at soft-amored targets.
lol .... funny .. I was reading and thinking that very nuance in your original post. I just didn’t want to go down that road as I responded.
and ... no, no nuance from this boy I firmly believe in your statement:
“the way this govt behaves about terrorists i am surprised they are not using nerf bullets against the really bad guys, and saving the hollow points for conservatives”
I’ll take that statement to the bank. Cynical you might ask .. no .. I KNOW these dirtbags. Obviously you do as well. to hell with nuance, it is what it is.
Its what I carry
To add: I ride. My leather will eat .22s for lunch, standard 9mm would hurt, but Hornady Crit Ds or XTPs would be a game-ender.
final protective fire at the white house
