The United States has asked NATO member Bulgaria to house detainees from its prison camp at Guantanamo in Cuba, Bulgaria's Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov said on Saturday.

On what legal ground would Bulgaria keep a man like the Gitmo residents imprisoned? The Bulgarian Constitution has similar guarantees of the rights of the accused as most other modern nations. Its institutions are constantly being scrutinized by the Euros, so going around the law is not really an option. The US can at least claim that its Armed Forces captured them on the battlefield. Whether they have standing in an American criminal court may be a gray area, but once on Bulgarian soil, they will get their day in a Bulgarian court and the Bulgarian prosecutor will have no proof of their guilt.
I really think some of the terrorists will walk free. Unbelievable incompetence!
