“irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals”

Fear of sodomite predation on the young, aversion to the loathsome perversions sodomites are compelled to perform, and discrimination against sodomites in the effort to protect the innocent are all completely rational.

Not merely rational, these things are absolute moral imperatives.

Am I a homophobe if I do not accept the homosexual lifestyle and I believe that homosexual sex is a grave sin against God?

The practice of homosexuality is a sin, it is not right, it is an abomination, it is destructive. Fear? I think not.

Homophobe is a ‘silence-code-word’ similar to Racist. It is used in all cases to try to silence one that speaks out. Used liberally in DU-land.

The Salvation Army does not discriminate against homosexuals, helping all without pre-qualification, so so much for that part of homophobic. Yes, they disapprove of homosexuality, as is their right lest they yield to thought police, but that does not necessarily equate to fear. As for being irrational, is it irrational to disapprove of a life style that goes counter to human biology and the complementary nature of male/female relationships since the beginning of human history? As another poster noted, tolerance does not demand approval. The gay lobby needs to exercise tolerance of views other than their own.

funny how the word phobic in this case is expanded to mean discrimination. I’ve never seen anything about discrimination in the definition of the word phobia. I doubt very many people are afraid of homosexuals and as far as having an aversion to it, who is anybody to tell anybody else that their aversions to homosexuality are irrational? If what they do hits me on a visceral level that grosses me out to the point I can never accept it as normal and natural, who are you or anybody else to tell me that is irrational? My grandmother who was a staunch Democrat her entire life had to have it explained to her one day exactly what it is that gay men do. We got on the subject of gay marriage and I stated that it is the democrats for who in much higher percentages support gay marriage. Since she had been living in a time warp for about 50 years and refused to believe or even see just how far her party has come, she didn’t believe me. When I pointed out voting records to which she could not argue, she made a comment that let me know she did not really understand what gay men do. She thought they just loved each other and kissed. I explained and I thought she was going to have a heart attack. Refused to believe it and made comments about such acts that would make me seem like Mother Theresa. Her response is pretty typical for her generation from my experience although not too many don’t find out what it really means until their 80s. My generation and younger have been bombarded with the subject every day of our lives for so long that many have lost their natural aversion to it. In the same way that seeing gruesome blood and guts scenes desensitizes people. The younger generations have been brainwashed right out of their aversions to it. They know that opposing it is held up as evil even before they know what it is. Before even knowing what it’s all about, the kids now know they better not be against it.

Sign me up! I have a tremendous aversion to sexually perverted behavior. I was born that way!
