The Salvation Army - naughty or nice?
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 12/14/9 | Phil Bronstein

Posted on 12/14/2009 12:45:15 PM PST by SmithL

The halls aren't the only thing getting decked this holiday season.

The Salvation Army, the country's biggest charity, is taking it full on the chin from a social media network mobilized against the organization's position on homosexuality and other social sins. Twitter, Facebook and gay Web sites are lit up with protest and calls for donor boycotts.

The Army's official same-sex statement suggests it's unlikely those cheery volunteers ringing bells over red kettles will be donning gay apparel anytime soon.

While homosexuals are not "blameworthy," ... "Scripture forbids sexual intimacy between members of the same sex." The Army is an unabashedly evangelical, religious entity, after all, and has also resisted domestic partner benefits for its employees.

Last month, there was another stink about the Army's Houston division demanding to see Social Security cards of needy parents before providing toys for their kids. Angry protesters claimed this was discrimination against cardless illegal immigrants.

Before we take the predictable San Francisco, to-the-barricades view on all this, let's consider the Catholic concept of "proportionalism." This means (roughly, my interpretation) that bad conduct can be acceptable if a much greater good is being accomplished.

The Salvation Army served 33 million people in the United States last year. It raises about $2 billion a year and spends an impressive 89 percent of that on services - food, shelter, foster care and HIV programs.

It is a consistent and reliable disaster relief group.

"The first hand that reaches to pull you from the rubble of our next earthquake," Shea O'Neill wrote on the SFAppeal Web site last week, "will be the anti-gay hand of the Salvation Army."

There's no whitewashing their beliefs, if you oppose them, though the Army mission also is clear that its relief services are available to anyone "without regard to sexual orientation."

The insurance commissioner is the key. Their ruling was that your insurance company had been responsible all along. I’m assuming that the SA lawyer knew that, and that’s why they forced the issue.

Incidentally, which hospital?

It appears that the Suave One has been sent back to DU.

Thank God, sanity has prevailed here at FR. You are clueless.

I've worked in several places that claimed "100% participation" when I know for a fact that was untrue. For the simple reason that I didn't contribute."

They usually get around this little snag by having the company donate the minimum allowable donation to UW in your name. I'm sure it gets written off as a public affairs or PR expenditure, but that way they get to keep their 100% moniker.

the funny thing about thesuaveone is that he was a Feb 2003 sign-up. that’s 6 years before he says something that sounds anti-conservative???

Odd

I had never noticed him, but then last week he started showing up on a few threads pushing “choice” and homosexual marriage. He was also on a caucused Religion Forum thread saying that FR should be political forum only and he didn’t want to hear about God.

I went back and checked and prior to last week his most recent post was in early 2008. It looks as if Jim was right and there is a coordinated attack by the Darwinists (I hit abuse on a troll the other day who hadn’t posted anything in several years and showed up accusing me of being a member of DC because I found something that was supposed to be on a “secret thread”).

I’m not surprised if there are 5th column members of FR. It makes more sense than it doesn’t. They’d do their most damage prior to an election, and, interestingly, suaveone signed up in the run-up to the 04 election...about new hampshire primary time, isn’t it, Feb of 03?

They seriously split this forum over guiliani and romney during this past presidential election. With help from big name “republicans.”

McCain was by default. Loved by nobody, tolerated by many.

Never again!

And now it seems their agenda is to stop the backlash against Obama.

Sure they do good things. It doesn’t change the fact that they are a homophobic organization.

Maybe there is good reason to be "homophobic," like the fact homosexuality is spreading STDs like no other behavior or the fact that it often leads to depression and drug and alcohol addiction.

The bullies are the homosexual activists that have no tolerance for opposing POVs and will harass even the best of organizations that disagree with them. It's past time there was a backlash such this sort of idiocy.

irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against homosexuality or homosexuals

Sign me up! I have a tremendous aversion to sexually perverted behavior. I was born that way!

Yes, this era is trying its hardest to become another Sodom and Gomorrah. In fact, it could be in worse shape already. Scary to think what judgment will happen this time.

Actually, the judgment is described in the Book of Revelations.

Thank you for your posts. ENTIRELY in your name, I am going out to find a Salvation Army kettle to make a donation. YOU are the inspiration for that, you and your smarmy comments. They will be getting money they otherwise would not have. Thanks again.

If it were kept in their BEDROOMS, I’d have nothing to say; it will be GOD they answer to, not me. HOWEVER, they do NOT keep it in the bedroom; they are way too busy shoving it in my face. It’s not TOLERANCE they want, but ACCEPTANCE; as if somehow their perversion were “normal.” I can personally tolerate that which does not impose a burden of any sort on people outside the participants, but I cannot and WILL NOT accept such as normal or good. Since you seem to be cheering the perverts on, are you one of them?

“It is a mental disorder, which people with mental disorders are fine until they start affecting other people negatively.”

Not necessarily. If I were too mentally ill to accept treatment, it would be a friend indeed who forced it on me.

“I have OCD, and as long as I don’t spend all my time at work washing my hands then I am fine and gainfully employed”

Are you really equating hand-washing with a man using a another man’s (or a boy’s) anus and rectum as though they were a wife’s vagina?

“It is a harmless mental disorder as i don’t hurt other people.”

That is exactly the point. Same-sex attraction disorder is *not* a harmless mental disorder. Not to those who suffer from it, not to those they recruit, not to civilization at large. Not to you, not to me, and *certainly* not to any boy under the age of 20.

Thousands of Canadians have died because men engage in these loathsome perversions with other males. Perhaps you never saw the old “Blood Trail” thread here.

“If minors are involved then the Law Enforcement definitely need to be involved.”

Of all the men in the world who have SSAD, you can count the number who have never popped a boy in the keister on the fingers of one hand, with digits left over.

Oh, yes, I can hear the keening from those whose peephole on the world didn’t open until after the SSAD activists were in full howl with their lies. Well, in the largest and most credible study ever done on the subject, most participants admitted to having nailed an underage boy. The others were lying.

“Should we get involved in arresting people who eat too much and confiscating their forks?”

False analogy. Why is it that people who argue in favor of the harmlessness of SSAD always – always, always, always, always – use debate tactics that are less than fully forthright? Could it be because Satan is a liar and the father of lies?

“There is reasonable government intrusion and then there is absolute control and tyranny.”

And going back to the way things were before our country lost its flippin’ mind is neither absolute control nor tyranny. It wasn’t the first time around, and it won’t be if we regain our senses and start acting right.

“Protecting minors is reasonable”

Reasonable? Reasonable? It is an absolute, inescapable moral imperative.

“keeping consenting adults from one another in the privacy of their own home is tyranny.”

Woah, flag on the play. There was some excuse for being taken in by that straw man in the early 1970s. There isn’t any excuse for it now. Here are *just a few* of the ways that argument is deceptive:

1. Nobody is proposing “keeping adults from one another.” As far as I can tell, nobody in America has proposed that since the late forties.

2. As we have seen over the past few decades, “privacy” is irrelevant. That “privacy of their own home” stuff was just the nose of the camel under the tent. That was never what they wanted, and they certainly didn’t stop when they got it. In case you haven’t noticed, we now have a *p*r*e*s*i*d*e*n*t*i*a*l* *a*p*p*o*i*n*t*e*e* in charge of school safety who is sympathetic to NAMBLA, the North American Man-Boy Love Association, whose battle cry is “Eight is too late.” Children are being taught to insert their genital organs into the rectums of their classmates and to take each others’ penises into their mouths and, it goes without saying, to allow adults to do the same to them.

3. It is very definitely our business what these “adults” are doing in the privacy of their own homes, because that tells us that they cannot be trusted within a hundred miles of a teen. It tells us that they *must* *not* under *any* circumstances be allowed to become school teachers, doctors, dentists, State Department Employees, any sort of celebrity…in fact, anything that would make them a role model for the young.

4. I put “adults” in quotation marks because people with serious mental disorders are not competent. They are adults only in chronological age. If a male orderly in a mental hospital were preying on a female patient, people would be baying for his blood. Why? Because she is not competent to consent. The same applies to men with SSAD.

4. Their sexual perversions are not merely loathsome on a moral and aesthetic level, they are unsanitary in the extreme. Men with SSAD are a health hazard to all of us.

5. Men with SSAD need treatment. This disorder is curable. “Tolerating” it, approving of it, endorsing it, tells these poor men that they are fine, that they don’t need help. This is as bitterly cruel as it would be if we were encouraging a clinically depressed man to refuse treatment and “celebrate his cognitive orientation.”

I could go on, but I have to be at work early in the morning.

Western civilization really needs to slap itself in the forehead, shake its head vigorously while going “wubba, wubba, wubba,” and WAKE THE HELL UP.
