No, I’m not proposing that there are any civilization that won a war utilizing women to any great extent in battle. No, I’m not stating I support woman on the front lines. Apparently my having said this before didn’t register?

I routinely buy anyone in uniform lunch, dinner or a drink.

Ditto. The only place I've not been able to do that was in NYC, during Fleet Week, after 9-11.

No one in a uniform paid for anything, anywhere, as far as I could see. I stopped trying to pick up tabs after the first 1/2 dozen or so times.

There were a good bunch of sailors, and more than a few Marines, sporting some serious hangovers after that particular port of call. :-)

Just because you have kids in the service DOES NOT make YOU qualified to comment and ANYTHING military. I have one son in the USMC and I am 20 year retired military and have seen what works and what don’t so yes, I AM QUALIFIED!

I do not believe women belong in combat.

That said, there are women who have served who had combat come to them, and who did not fold and collapse, but fought back. For that, they do not deserve snickers and remarks about their sexuality. They deserve the same respect a man would receive with the same experience.

I will gladly buy any one of them a beer, and spit on the Man that won’t.

And, you are yelling at me because????? So, my time in the USAF means, what? My father’s service during Korea means, what? My brothers 8 years with the Army Ranger’s means, what? My father-in-law, who just passed away at age 86, who served during WWII means, what? The seven members of my family who together served 12 years in the Middle East since 9/11/01 means, what? Ours is a Miltary family - has been since before the Revolutionary War.

Thank you for your service to the USMC and the United States of America for 20 years

Some women had combat come to them.

* * * * *

Like Kim Munley at Ft. Hood last month. She acquitted herself pretty well.

God Bless all of them. Just because I’m curious, why did you go off on me? What comment did I make that got stuck in your craw?

“Like Kim Munley at Ft. Hood last month. She acquitted herself pretty well.”

But do recall, for accuracy, that it was her partner that took down the bad guy, not, as media hype had everyone belief, her. Not to diminish her actions, but PC-reporting is an insult to all.

With all this past pedigree of wars and service past, what do you all think the WWII and Korea, and VN vets would say about this push for females on the front-line?

Just wondering.

Okay, I understand. But, I must confess. While I’m proud of my service in the USAF, I have tended to downplay that, especially given that I never served in a combat theatre (though my MOS in the USAF was one of the few that required carrying a weapon - Security Police). I uphold those who have had boots on the ground and have had to dodge bullets and bombs, and seen their friends ripped apart in battle (my son lost two from an IED). I spent my time providing security for B-52’s, KC-135 Tankers, and the WSA at Minot AFB - little threat up there during the mid to late 70’s to early 80’s - or even now for that matter - unless of course you count the prairie dogs).

I am a Viet Nam vet, Army Infantry. I think that most American men of my time, thought of women as protected creatures or depositories.

None wanted them, of either class, exposed to how bad combat can be. The John Wayne idea of a neat little hole is a fallacy.

Thank you for that. Still, I tip my hat to those who have seen the worse of humankind while fighting in a combat theatre. And, to all who made the Military a career. It is not an easy life, and, it is because of people like you that Americans have had their freedoms and liberties made safe - I just hope and pray that the tradition will be able to continue.
