We need a Conservative Documentarian to counter this propogandist (selective) version of American History.

I’ve read it. The message I got from it was that I should be ashamed of myself for being a white-trash imperialist.

Paul Johnson's
A History of the American People (Harper Collins, 1997) is a good one-volume (~1000 pages) antidote to Zinn's book, though as I haven't finished it I'm not sure how conservative he is overall.
Reading the Right Books, which is put out by the Heritage Foundation, also has a section on conservative American history books.

There certainly seem to be a lot of descendants of eastern European immigrants among prominent anti-American writers. I wonder what the story is with that. Anyone have any ideas?

Some Eastern European Jews coming from a background of Tsarist oppression not too surprising gravitated towards labor unions and such as a means of protecting the weak, and that continued when they came to this country and no longer had a Tsar oppressing them. Their children picked up the same attitudes, and some of them grew up to become the violent 60s radicals.
To this day, many Jews reflexively vote left wing even though the left wing now stands for oppression. A lot of them have figured out what is going on, and that the left is no friend of American Jews. Obama's conduct in office is making this obvious.

Interesting. I guess that could explain things like the SPLC, ACLU, ADL, etc too.

Paul Johnson is VERY conservative. He’s the one who wrote the “Intellectuals” featuring several profiles (unflattering) of leftist intellectuals from Rousseau to Marx to Hemingway.

I can’t say much except to tell you that I’ve been in discussions with some important people who are indeed looking at countering this.

Johnson is pretty good. He gets a lot of minor details wrong, being English and all, but my main beef is that he can't figure out if tax cuts caused the Great Depression or not, so I think he tells a confusion story about the Great Depression.
I'm satisfied that our Patriot's History of the United States is a much better book overall.

His book "Modern Times" was fantastic. His "History of the American People," not quite so. I prefer our book, A Patriot's History of the United States for a lot of reasons. First, Johnson is a tad too much an admirer of Teddy Roosevelt; second, he's never sure if low taxes are good or not; and third, he just makes a lot of little errors (as we all do, but I think Mike Allen and I got all our errors out now).

I just bought:
The American Patriot's Handbook: The Writings, History, and Spirit of a Free Nation by George Grant
(here's what the catalog had to say): From the mid-nineteenth to the mid-twentieth century, it was common for schoolchildren in the United States to be presented with a primer containing important articles that were key to understanding the moral and social values on which the country was founded. Drawing upon this tradition, George Grant has created an updated anthology for the contemporary citizen. Bookended by an excerpt from Christopher Columbuss Book of Prophesies and George W. Bushs speech on the one-year anniversary of 9/11, the more than fifty pieces featured in this compilation trace the evolution of the American creed from Colonial times to the modern era. Grants selections, which span both sides of the political spectrum, range from legal articles and historical documents to literary works and song lyrics. History buffs, political junkies, and all patriotic souls will be inspired by this compelling and meaningful collection.

When school appropriations bills come up - VOTE AGAINST THEM - ALL OF THEM.
When you get a letter from your college asking for donations, refuse. The Education Establishment hates conservatives - and we NEED TO QUIT supporting them.

Yes. But realize George Grant is not the author of A Patriot's HISTORY of the United States, which is a full-fledged, soup-to-nuts history of the U.S.

Not eastern european immigrants per se, but rather eastern european immigrants of Jewish extraction. It remains a mystery to me why so many Jews tend toward socialistic ideals. Even more puzzling to me is their attitude towards defense of Israel. I have a very good Jewish friend/colleague whose grandparents were communists and he is decidedly leftwing himself. David Horowitz=another example, but he saw the light.
