Nonsense. Rudy is a RINO and Sarah couldn’t be more different.

Hi Charles,

Of course I don’t believe in an “enemies list” but we should definitely hold our representatives accountable for the kind of message they put out or imply. We must hold them accountable not only for how they act and vote politically, but what message they give off on national TV—to the general public.

Palin is not afraid to ruffle feathers. She was the enemy of the establishment Republicans in Alaska—in fact she became a “darling of the Democrats” for how well she was willing to get things done without the self-interest that consumes you when you’re too busy dealing with “staying cool” with the the machine movers of your own party rather than paying attention to the VOTERS you SERVE.

The “ole boy” Republicans couldn’t stand her and yet she was able to get so much done in so short a time.

It was a great move for her to come out and support Doug Hoffman in the New York 23rd against the original “Republican” Scozzafava. I am not saying Eric Cantor is the equivalent to a Scozzafava (yet), but his Geraldo interview is hardly the best example of implying that the base has the wrong message or that Palin’s message is “not inclusive” enough.

The other day, he made comments openly criticizing Rush Limbaugh’s impact on the Republican Party by saying “”There is no question the Republican Party has to return to be one of inclusion, not exclusion.” —He implied the same thing about Palin in the Geraldo interview—when actually this “exlusive-sticking-to-principles” message is the only one RESIGNATING with people full force right now! And not just for Republicans, but “moderates” as well...

Honestly, what has Eric Cantor accomplished? What does he have to show for his high ranking position? NOTHING. (at least nothing of note) Romney on the other hand has his failing universal healthcare system in Massachusetts to show for it.

Palin has done more to challenge the socialist agenda in this country to with her “death panel” facebook note and her Washington Post Op-Ed on Climate Change —and she’s not even in D.C.! Peple underestimate the mere power of being willing to STAND for something and put out a clear message. Even if people don’t agree with what you have to say right away, they’ll at least pay attention. People like Cantor should take note.

JustDumbBlonde—I didn’t say Palin WOULD beat Obama, but that she is the only one with a chance. (at least compared to the other contenders)

THe Republicans were mistaken in thinking that by being a “moderate” and “inclusive” you have a better chance of beating liberals. WRONG.

First off, it would been a HUGE mistake putting up a Guiliani against a charismatic, young, new-to-the-public “CHANGE” candidate like Obama. Guiliani was too moderate, too hypocritical with his personal life, and too CLOSE TO BUSH by association and in rhetoric.

TWO complete right wing OUTSIDERS would have had a better chance against Obama than McCain or Romney or the “top picks” from last year. People weren’t looking for “liberalism” (That’s why Obama had to frame himself like a moderate) People were looking for a change from BUSH.

Outsiders who would have been willing to craft a clear-cut message being critical of all the ways BUsh abandoned his own principles with too much spending, too much unaccountability—that kind of message would have resignated (maybe not lead anyone to WIN...people loved Obama) but it would have resignated because people wouldn’t have seen it as the “status quo” Bush/Cheney repeat ticket.

Today, that message being represented clearly and fully by someone who can rival Obama’s youth and charisma—someone like Palin, IS having a great impact already and would have a far greater chance against Obama in 2012.

Don't know if you remember, but at one time in this forum there was a very loud group that thought the same thing about Rudy Guiliani. He was the ONLY one that could beat (fill in the blank) .

Not really, you wrote a misleading history, freerepublic despised Giuliani and as conservatives and members of the base, we were fearful of the Romney/Rockefeller insiders of the GOP being able to get him into the nomination.

Now we have the unique situation of having a front running conservative, loved by the base, perhaps being powerful enough that the insiders can't destroy our chances of getting a conservative through the primaries, since she is currently the most popular among republican voters.

The situation is reversed.

Hero Worship it may be - but it’s deserved. Her courage and optimism in the face of the most vile hatred from the left, from the media, and even from men in her own party is astounding. If more people in this country would follow her lead we might have some hope for a new generation of amazing leaders.

Sarah is a hero and an inspiration. We need heroes. We need true leadership. And we don’t need Republican party king-makers tearing her down every chance they get. They do it at their own peril. Because there are a LOT of us Palin supporters who are looking at them right now and saying what Bush said: “You are either with us, or against us.”

I stand with Sarah because she is the only one willing to stand for me.

Magritte, it’s not a “Palin fanboy” thread it’s a Conservative thread. What’s tragic is Palin seems to be the “potential presidential contender” with the guts and hutzpah to actually stand for conservative principles while people like Romney flip flop their way through their careers depending on waht will suit them for their latest election bid.

aye, this is my final post on this thread, but to sum up where I’m coming from:

1) I don’t care what “history” has shown so far. History changes. The GOP establishment is kidding themseleves if they think the base will just vote for anyone who’s not Obama and has an “R” next to their name. That’s not true.

2) People don’t realize how much worse the ‘08 election would have turned out for McCain had Palin not been on his ticket. Palin brought out a bunch of people from the base that might not have otherwise voted at all.

3) In terms of independent voters, yes there were some who might have doubted Pailn’s qualifications—but those people were already leaning towards Obama anyway, and even they had taken an initial liking to Sarah before the media garbage ensued. A lot of them may not be at tea party rallies, but they are not Palin-haters the way the lefitsts are.

4) Many conservatives will either not vote at all or vote 3rd party. (Think of how well Ron Paul did in some places! LoL) The anger conservatives have towards “Rinos” is equal to the anger people have towards Obama.

5) I can already see the tagline Romney and Cantor will use against Palin. They’ll pull the “She resigned as governor” thing. Or “She has no experience.” —well Romney’s main accomplishment as governor was a failed socialist healthcare experiment and Cantor hasn’t shown hismelf to be too impressive in challenging the Pelosi-Reid machine either.

6) Palin on the other hand coined “Death Panels” with her facebook note and has done more against the Climate CHange agenda with her WaPo Op-Ed than any of them have ever done in their careers.

7) “Independent” people might not agree immediately with Palin’s views—but they will at least pay attention and they have several years to think about what Palin has to say. THAT is the power for standing up for something and having a clear message— and not just playing to your own self-interest the way the “establishment” types do.

Cantor is a politician first, citizen second. He relishes the status and celebrity of being a US congressman, especially one with a fairly high profile.
Mrs Diane Cantor is a corporate lady who happens to be pro-abort. And I can only speculate but I don't think she would possess fond thoughts for a woman like Mrs Palin.
Woman such as Palin and Michele Bachmann are much the polar opposites of Mrs. Cantor. The latter being the type to host a charity event for poor orphans but heaven forbid it be suggested that she actually come into contact with the 'grubby little urchins'.
Wee Eric's a snob, and not exactly a 'man's man', but he votes consistently from the conservative side and will be a good ally in Congress for President Palin.

"Nonsense. Rudy is a RINO and Sarah couldn’t be more different."

You did not comprehand my post in the least. I did not compare Rudy and Sarah. My post simply addressed the comment that Sarah was the ONLY candidate who could beat Obama and that is what is nonsense. We have no idea what will happen between now and 2012, nor do we know who might step up or fall down.

What happened to the Great American Listening Tour?

I'm only aware of the first 'listening' event at the northern Virginia pizza parlor. In which Jeb declared the 'era of Reagan dead, gone and not returning' as Cantor and Romney sat by grinning like two obnoxious frat boys.

"JustDumbBlonde—I didn’t say Palin WOULD beat Obama, but that she is the only one with a chance. (at least compared to the other contenders)"

And where did I say that you did? You said that she was the ONLY one with a chance and I call bunk. At one time there were a bunch of people who said only Rudy could (or had a chance to) beat the democrat and, as it turned out, Rudy couldn't even win a primary. Given what can happen in politics in three years, we have no idea who will beat Obama.

Agreed on that on Romney...Romney is a mediocre candidate at best, but has appeal in the moderate side of the Republican Party. Huckabee (no, he is not finished with the pardon thing) is popular with socons. Palin has strength in the socons and some in the moderate side. At this time, would you agree that there is a 3-way race shaping in 2012??

"Palin fanboy" is a reference to the even slightest nod that not everybody in the Republican party think she's the second coming of Mr. Reagan is met with dumbfounded disbelief and derision. Republicans with ambition will be looking to major candidates to link up with...I personally think Cantor is looking to the Romney side at this time...

Winning Republican candidates typically are/were Governors or Vice-Presidents. Cantor's current path is VP. Barbour is positioned for a run as well...magritte

Sigh. I did not say that "the forum" supported Rudy. You know darned good and well that there were a substantial number of Rudybots on this forum and their mantra was that he was the only one in a position to beat (at that time) Hillary. How'd that work out?

Later on in the campaign season, there was a sizeable FredHead contingent and that didn't work out so well either.

My point -- and my only point for those of you reading comprehension challenged folks -- is that there is no ONE person at this point in time that is uniquely positioned to beat Obama. You may disagree, but I did not mislead with my comments.

Wow!! Do you really believe she is the ONLY one standing with you? Look, I may go with her myself but no way do I believe she is the only possible candidate I can support. I have to wait first to see who chooses to run.

Just doing a little informal poll among friends, most have the same attitude that I have. We like her but we're willing to wait to see who else throws their hats into the ring.

Agreed, I'm not doing flip flops over the ones we have now but there is a long way to go.

I just don't understand this Palin worship. It appears childish to me.

Palin is the reverse of Giuliani.

Instead of the insiders imposing him on us, we are imposing Palin on the insiders.

Palin is not a hail Mary desperation shot by a small conservative base, Palin by far has the highest approval numbers of any competition. The Giuliani and Thompson situations have nothing in common with the Palin situation.

I don’t have a lick of a problem with it and she is on my list but I don’t put her on some kind of pedestal. I’ll wait to see the total field and then decide.
