Accenture ends sponsorship of Tiger

Global consulting and outsourcing firm Accenture is ending its sponsorship of Tiger Woods, saying the golfer is "no longer the right representative" after the "circumstances of the last two weeks."

(SNIP)

The company is the second key sponsor of Woods to pull away. Gillette said Saturday that it won't feature Woods in its ads for an unspecified period of time.

...wow!...wonder if somebody will add up the millions in lost endorsements when this all shakes out...prior to this is was reported that Woods was making $100 mil a year off the golf course....so who’s gonna get a taste of all that spokes person moolah?....Phil maybe?...hey, I gotta an idea...John Daley!...he’s sober again, off PGA suspension(for bringing ‘unwelcome publicity’to the Tour)really slimmed down and is still quite popular.

And thus the big sponsors drop away (with Nike hanging on to the bitter end, I'm sure).

Now, for those with justifiable questions as to why this is still relevant for FR, let me bring up a point. From the article:

(...)saying the golfer is "no longer the right representative" after the "circumstances of the last two weeks."

Like these nitwits didn't know this stuff was going on. It wasn't "circumstances of the last two weeks." - it was happening in broad daylight for years and years. And we all know how sponsors get VIP access to these stars, so Accenture higher-ups surely have known about Tiger's whoring for years.

And here is the higher level issue, pertinent to FR: utterly amoral global big business. It seems that once men and women go to MBA school, their sense of right, wrong, loyalty to spouses and their countrymen goes RIGHT OUT THE WINDOW.

My brother works for a profitable auto-parts manufacturing plant. They've had to work their butts off to stay profitable. Someone big global MBA-driven entity bought out their company, and one of the first things announced was (paraphrasing) "it took us 30 seconds to decide to move manufacturing down to Mexico". This, announced in an all-hands company meeting, just days before Thanksgiving.

I'm sure we all have similar stories. Why don't we strive any longer for loyalty, patriotism AND PROFIT at all the same time? We used to, but not any more! Something is SERIOUSLY wrong in the "upper crust" colleges churning out these cads.

I thought Arthur Andersen (now Accenture) and Tiger made a good team.

You do realize that the Arthur Andersen of Enron fame and Accenture formerly Andersen Consulting were completely separate entities by the time their deal with Tiger was signed?

I thought Arthur Andersen (now Accenture)

Is THAT where Accenture came from? It was like they magically appeared overnight with ads all over the DC Metro. I had never heard of them, but from the ads they appeared to be a competitor to KBR.

Some conservatives will defend any low life crook if he can pass himself off as a "capitalist".

The mirror image on the left is the liberals who think there is always something immoral about making a profit and increasing wealth.

The market by itself is no reliable judge of moral worth or moral worthlessness in either case.

They did not care about the misbehavior, only about the scandal it produced after it was revealed. They must have thought Woods was scandalproof.

I’m not saying “told y’all so” when I made the call that they’d be dropping him when only three women had made it public. It just happened that I have seen Woods’ style of behavior a lot while I worked in the LA area.

As soon as I saw he was juggling three extra-marital women and a wife at the same time, I said “Oh, I’ve seen this before... it ain’t gonna stop at three...” Indeed, in the instances I’ve seen in the past, the women numbered up into the 12 to 20 range. One guy had a amazing gift for logistics and scheduling to keep them all straight, without assistance from flunkies (as Woods has had here). Still, when this guy slipped up just once (he parked his Benz on the street outside a GF’s apartment), where his wife could see it on the way home from work, and his explanation was simply not believable, the cascade started and before long, he had his wife and at least two of his “mistresses” physically beating his ass.

It was.... amusing.

The Woods story hasn’t run its full course yet. It will get stranger yet. What I find hard to explain is how Woods hasn’t hired or allowed his PR team to get out ahead of this. Their response has been bumbling, at best, fragmented and ignorant at worst. The thing people have to remember is that Woods isn’t just a golfer, he’s a whole company, a cottage industry. That’s all going down the drain right quick...

One guy had a amazing gift for logistics and scheduling to keep them all straight, ...

Long, long ago (in a galaxy far far away) I worked fixing electronic equipment. One guy brought in his personal mini-cassette recorder. This was back in the days before those were even standardized, so he had to leave his tape so I'd have something to test with. When I was testing the playback, it turned out that he was running three women and using the recorder to keep track of his lies.
