That’s what they’re calling it. It usually lasts only for six months and she’s had something wrong with her for the past five years, diagnosed during 2004 I think.

In all frankness, I think her subjects have more reason to feel stressed out or sick.

The Crysanthemum Throne demands a male heir. Masako had difficulty conceiving and then produced a daughter, which was very stressful to her.

Her husband’s younger brother already had 2 daughters, and so about 2-3 years ago, the younger brother and his wife decided to try for another child and they had a son, who is now the heir apparent to the throne after the current Crown Prince. In other words, the nephew will become the emperor eventually. Current law insists on a male, and without a male the monarchy ends.
