That is your opinion. I think that evolution perverts science and that trying to fit evolution in the Bible perverts the Christian faith. I do not believe everything that I hear coming from creation scientists just like I don’t believe everything I hear coming from ANY person. Because we are people and are fallible.

If you are attacking a young earth creationist viewpoint, you are attacking my viewpoint. Keep it civil. If you evidence to present do that. However saying we are fringe (negative connotation), unable to reconcile faith and science, anti science, etc etc, that is a personal attack.
I have even had people denigrate me as a mother and a teacher of my children because I don’t believe in evolution. I UNDERSTAND evolution and I teach it to my children. I don’t agree that it is settled science or that it is the best explaination for the evidence.

People have different views than you. I don’t think you are a bad person or stupid for teaching your children (if you have any) about evolution. I do not think it is child abuse.

I would appreciate the same respect.

One question that I have, why is the issue of evolution so PERSONAL to people? Why are you sad for Jim Robinson (although I don’t think he is YEC). Why is there a need to control what others think on this issue?

Read the original article we are discussing. Calling me a 'Darwinist' (why not an 'Einsteinist', 'Copernicanist') and denying the right to be defined as Christian also constitutes a personal attack. With one thing I can thus definitely agree: let us keep it civil.

As for "That is your opinion." - well, you have a problem. Science is not just a set of isolated findings. Findings from many different areas of science are interconnected and consistent with each other, and the theory of evolution comes as part of the whole package. Moreover, on the basis of this package we developed technology, and we can see that it works. This supports MY opinion.

"One question that I have, why is the issue of evolution so PERSONAL to people?

So here is my PERSONAL answer: (1) I am a conservative (a conservative libertarian breed). I am also a scientist, working in the field of biomedical research. The scientific community is MOSTLY Leftist. In natural sciences this is not as bad as in humanities, but still a conservative PhD is a rare phenomenon. The life of a scientist who also happens to be a conservative is hard enough even without being associated with pseudoscience. (2) As a Christian I also believe that the YEC, in addition to being blasphemous, hurts Christianity in practical terms. Just as the analogous beliefs (geocentrism) hurt the Catholic Church several hundred years ago. If parts of the creed can be undermined (and 'creation science' falls apart easily), then how credible is the rest?
