The canadian view of health care is fundamentally different. They don't view health care as a right or a privilege. It's considered necessary for the benefit of their entire society and people in and out of government are expected to cooperate to make it work as well as possible and everyone is on the same system. In the US, the debate is mostly about who gets what in terms of services, money, advantage, etc. Citizens and elected officials are more interested in scamming the system for money, votes or some other benefit.

I was being a little facetious. I am familiar with the Canadian view as my wife is Canadian. I was reflecting on recent comments among Canadian officials regarding the possibility of allowing some fee for service. The response was that was impossible, because then the system wouldn’t treat everybody the same!
