Olympia Snowe delivered a very good speech on health care shortly before Thanksgiving, not that the press corps noticed. With Majority Leader Harry Reid's announcement this week of a double-secret bargain that Democrats hope will squeeze ObamaCare through the Senateafter nine whole days of debate so far in the world's greatest deliberative bodythe Maine Republican's words seem more pertinent than ever.
Mrs. Snowe began by noting that this year's health debate is "one of the most complex and intricate undertakings the Congress has ever confronted," and that she, too, has devoted much of her three-decade political career to promoting cheaper, better quality insurance. "But it must be done in an effective, common-sense and bipartisan way," she cautioned.
Far from "systematically working through the concerns, the issues and the alternatives," Mrs. Snowe added, Democrats have instead favored "artificially generated haste" and settled on a strategy "to ram it, to jam it" through Congress. The Senator detailed her good-faith participation in the "group of six" on the Senate Finance Committee, which met some 31 times over the spring and summer and reflected "the kind of extensive, meticulous process that an issue of this magnitude requires."

I only hope Senator Snowe follows her own sound advice.
Pro death for our preborn or elderly is 100 percent wrong.
They've got her in a corner. If she backtracks now she looks like a real fool.
The think Snowe, Collins and Liberman will hold firm but keep calling and faxing.
Why? Health insurance companies. Joe has Aetna in CT and others but Aetna butters Joe’s bread. Joe also sees Dodd is in trouble.
The gals in ME? Unum. They used to have their main HQ in ME. Unum is a Fortune insure that used to have main HQ in Portland,ME but they moved it to TN but still have a big office in ME. There are others in ME. If the girls in ME voted for healthcare or public option - I bet Unum will close their offices in ME and others.
Insurance companies? Love me or hate em they are survivors. Under that white pressed button downed shirts - they know how to play hardball.
Too bad she voted to “move the process along”.
We wouldn’t be here if she hadn’t done that.
I still don’t see any reason why I should pay attention to anything this old elitist RINO has to say. She hasn’t done anything to earn her 15 minutes yet except to play footsie with the fascists.
Looking for a bigger patoff for her vote. She’ll get it unless some other RINO under bids her
Olympia Snowe Is Right

AND????? This IDIOT will still vote for it! Along with her little dogs Collins, Specter, and Goober Graham!
Even a blind squirrel can find a nut once in a while.
Speaking of Graham, has he said anything either way on this health care crap?
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
His instructions to Olympia are "Pretend that you woke up and smelled the Republican coffee. This will make people tend to forget that you voted for all this crap in the first place, and indeed they wouldn't be in this pickle if you personally hadn't put them there. This will all blow over and we can get back to the main event of perpetual power here in the People's Republic of Norumbega."
Olympia and the Old Man, who could give Soetoro slick lessons, is just tap dancing her way to her next election. And she still has little Suzie to throw to the wolves if things really get tough. In the end, she'll (and Suzie will, too) back Obama because she and Suzie have already been promised many hundreds of stimulus millions for Maine in order to bail out the Maine Health Care fiasco.
In the meantime, a couple of good old Republican harrumphs here and there won't hurt anybody. Even the Democrats are hard pressed to come up with an opponent for her who could outflank her to the left.
