Work on a West Virginia wind power project has been halted by a federal judge who sided with environmentalists' claim that the project would harm an endangered bat.
U.S. District Judge Roger Titus issued the order Tuesday, citing potential harm to the federally endangered Indiana bat.
John Stroud, co-chairman of one of the environmental groups that filed the lawsuit, Mountain Communities for Responsible Energy, said group members were "really delighted with the ruling."
"We've been working on this for a while and the judge saw things our way, and we're really pleased," said Stroud, a rare book dealer who owns a farm a mile and a half from the wind power site.

They did both; some were used to power a generator to charge batteries for DC systems on the farm; the majority were for pumping water. Wincharger/Winco was probably the best known
So ... some folks don't know that WV (AKA W.Va.) is its own State ...
1) Until "The Late Unpleasantness", it wasn't. And when it did become a State (by seceding from a bunch of secessionists), "West Virginia" wasn't the first name proposed for the new State.
2) Some folks have it even worse than you ... many people seem to think that "New Mexico" is not even one of these United States.
I was watching Storm Chasers on the Discovery Channel.
One location shot somewhere in the Mid West caught a wind farm in the background.
Windmills as far as you could see.
I can see where migrating birds would be decimated trying to negotiate them.
Plus they are an extreme eyesore.
We can allow these wacko enviro's to create public suffering, but we gotta protect creatures that are more important than humans....
Only the Lefties can cause such crap, while political correctness accomodates it.
Somewhere out west the wind machines were killing Bald Eagles.
Economy of scale and a need for lots of ‘em to create any significant large amounts of power, like solar panels that also require lots of space to develop levels of power that can sustain loads.. better to build a nuke.
The trade-off ,, as you mentioned.
“Some folks have it even worse than you ... many people seem to think that “New Mexico” is not even one of these United States.”
That is just sad.
You are right. I guess I just like WV better for some reason. I still sometimes get mails with W.Va. on the envelope.
