She didnt reach the shores of America until she was 44, but Irina Koltoniuc, now 65, has never forgotten the thrill of that first impression . . .
Back home in Lithuania, where she lived in the capital city of Vilnius, religious freedom was nonexistent . . .
I am afraid, she said. For people like us, who have already been down this road, it scares us to see what is happening because we do not want to go down that road again. We see America turning into the kind of society we came from, where everyone was worried about offending someone else and where it was dangerous to draw attention to your beliefs.
Many in this city can remember a time when the John Hancock company distributed thousands of Christmas carol booklets throughout the public school system. Today thats unimaginable.
Im a Jew, Koltoniuc said, but this conspiracy against Christianity frightens me.

Merry Christmas, Irina. You tell a lovely story of finding freedom.
They're not all RINOs, but it's time to make a stand. Kill political correctness.
I don’t understand this war against Christmas, the most beautiful time of year.
I’m waiting for the Communist ex-pats to gather up and speak out. There ain’t no where else to go.
*ping*
” Kill political correctness.”
Agreed. PC is the enemy.

Well said.
I am a Christian who LOVES the Channukah Story as well as the Christmas Story.
Christmas gives us freedom of the Spirit.
Channukah tells the wonderful story of Freedom Fighters right here on planet earth who, against all odds, were able to drive evil, godless usurpers from their land. G*d honored their courage and dedication with the Miracle of the Oil.
Kind of relevant for today?
So for my Jewish FRiends, I wish YOU a VERY Happy Channukah.
And for my Christian FRiends, a Merry Christmas!
For our FRiends with no religious affiliation, I wish you a Blessed Winter that will be mild and easy to bear.
And for all, a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.
thx
There isn't. I hope they hurry up. Just think, no one under 30 has much of a memory of what it was like in the evil empire.
