With President Barack Obama's decision to escalate the war in Afghanistan by sending 30,000 additional troops to battle Al-Qaeda and the Taliban, he has put his imprint on the war on terror, and at the same time, given up the Democrats' most famous fallback position: blame George W. Bush.
Couple that with the economy and we are seeing the end of the president's first year in office coincide with him having to accept the full responsibility for the condition of the country.
Obama rode into office on the "blame Bush" tidal wave as the nation sickened of everything he touched. The economy? Bush was horrible at stewarding it. Giving banks billions in TARP funds? Dumb idea by Bush and Treasury Secretary Hank "Mr. Wall Street" Paulson. Sick of billions going to the war? It was all the fault of Bush and his chief crony, Vice President Dick Cheney.
The blame Bush mantra proved effective because it totally silenced Republicans, who were loathe to defend a conservative president who began with a surplus and ended with a deficit, as well as the architect of a war in Iraq based on never-proven claims of weapons of mass destruction. They couldn't even muster the strength to call him a conservative.

Wow. I know they blame Bush for everything, but blaming him for themselves?! That's a whole new level of Bush Derangement Syndrome.
We would have had McCain beating Lieberman last year.
It’s about time Obama was blamed.
No one knew who Palin was in 2003.
Reid and Pelosi were the main authors. Dems were the key players.
The voters gave the credits and the votes to Obama ... not to McCain.
Gosh. CNN and the writer are suffering from selective if not total amnesia.
Let's see...he pushed the bailouts, No Child Left Behind, Medicare Part D, McCain-Feingold, carbon taxes, and amnesty for illegals.
And that's just for starters.
Or is it deranged to call out liberals in conservative clothing?
Some say his ultimate goal is to head the UN. If he took his czars and cabinet (especially Pelosi), and made the move now, would we miss him? (sarc)
I think this time, we’re not going to nominate ‘the next in line’. Sarah or someone from that mindset will be the nominee.
Exactly. They blamed Herbert Hoover for years, even though it was FDR's policies that turned a recession into a depression.
For what? Pushing the $18 Trillion Medicare Part D?
The bastard can go straight to hell.
He was just making a point that:
IF ONLY BUSH WAS AS A REAL CONSERVATIVE AND A FIGHTER LIKE today’s PALIN.
Well. Sad fate.
But I agree.
I'm not so sure about that. Like it or not, Bush's legacy is the Obama administration and financial chaos, much as President Taft's legacy was Woody Wilson, though a strong case can be made that Woody was Roosevelt's fault for running 3rd party and splitting Republican votes.
Now if Bush had kept the campaign promises he made ...
As long as we kick their asses out of the US. If I was president, that would be one of my first agenda items, abolish the UN, or get out. Oh, I know all about the Rockefeller grant and all that, I’d tax them one million percent, fine the diplomats 8 zillion in parking fines, whatever. If Obama can trash our country, I can trash the UN. Give me liberty.... they want me to die. NO WAY! I’m here, I’m ready and I’m going to be their biggest boil on their ass.
“I blame Bush for keeping us safe.”
30,000+ dead Americans and climbing due to his love affair with Mexico’s interests would indicate that no, he didn’t. He didn’t even do anything about the lack of enforcement of visa laws that allowed the 9/11 hijackers their shot.
I will NEVER forgive the man for what he tried to do - inundate us with millions of DEMOCRATS. Never again. No more RINOs. His amnesty plans faltered, so we still have a slim chance of defeating the left. If Mr “See you at the bill signing” had won, it’d be all over. It ticks me off to no end that I donated money to his 2nd election campaign. What a fool I was. Not any longer.
Bush was far better than Gore or Kerry, but so is your average sewer rat. That’s no praise. That’s just pathetic. The GOP has put up squish after squish since Reagan - a man they hated like they hate people like Palin.
It IT amusing to hear Obama wail about this economy he inherited... like he wasn’t in the Senate and didn’t vote for this crap. LOL.
I agree entirely. Bush was just the lesser of two evils. Two times America voted for the republican lesser of two evils. This election America voted for the greater of two evils because they were fed up voting for the lesser and hoped voting democrat would be better. The lesson here is that as long as the republicans and the democrats keep putting forward evil candidates America will suffer. If the republicans want to regain power they're going to have to give up the old strategy of trying to be the lesser of two evils. How about they pick a candidate that won't screw American for a change?
Well that is why I figure him to some weird conundrum.
He was the lesser of two evils and I think we all have seen how that has gone.
