The American author Anne Applebaum, wife of Radoslaw Sikorski, the Polish Foreign Minister, has been given special police protection after the engine of her jeep exploded in as yet unexplained circumstances.
Ms Applebaum, 45, author of a Pulitzer prize-winning history of the Soviet Gulag, was driving through the Jozefow suburb of Warsaw on Saturday when she heard a strange noise in her car and got out to investigate. Shortly afterwards the engine blew up. She was unharmed.

Applebaum recently got a lot of criticism - rightfully in my opinion - over her idiotic defense of Roman Polanski. However before that episode, she was rightfully known as the author of “Gulag: A History,” which as the article states is a “Pulitzer prize-winning history of the Soviet Gulag.”
Wonder who tried to kill her, if it wasn’t an accident.
And her public support of Polanski didn’t note her connection to the Polish government, which was supporting the rapist.
Looks as if those Amish terrorists are now operating in Poland.
One gets the impression that you hold some kind of animus against today's Polish government.
Not me. Speaking personally as a free-market capitalist and as an anti-Communist, my approval of the Poles could hardly be any higher. Just take a look at how they're now tweaking the nose of the Big Brother Red Bear who still resides on their eastern doorstep:

No, I don’t think so. I think it’s the Russian intelligence service. They don’t like people who criticize the Gulag. It makes V.V. Putin and his sock puppet look bad.
“after the engine of her jeep exploded in as yet unexplained circumstances. “
One possible explanation....It’s a Chrysler.
Lol.
I don't understand Polish, but I think this says "Persons unknown, working for Tiger Woods, in a bid to forestall revelations of yet another affair..."
Sounds like Putin to me. He doesn’t like the Poles, and he doesn’t take kindly to criticism of Russia or Stalin.
The worst truck I ever owned was a Dodge. The second worst truck I ever owned was a Dodge.
There won’t be a third Dodge, unless it is from 1980 or earlier.
I very much support the Polish people, and am VERY angry that the Messiah double-crossed them on missile defense.
Warsaw's support of Polanski is the first "issue" I've had with them in a very long time.
I’m just back from a month in Poland. You are right about the Polish government - not only conservative, but courageously conservative.
