Huckabee Was Correct and America Needs Such Principled Leadership

There is currently a move underway to discredit Mike Huckabee over the rightful pardoning of a then 16 year old who had been sentenced to 108 years on robbery charges. I make this statement as someone who fully supports the death penalty for murderers and for child rapists, but also as someone who recognizes that getting tough on crime means fostering sensible rehabilitation, not turning first time offenders into violent career criminals.

Yes, Governor Huckabee pardoned more people than most governors do. That’s because Gov. Huckabee isn’t thoughtless, callous or cruel and recognizes that public service actually entails service to the public. Sentencing a 16 year old to months of hard labor generally serves as the greatest deterrent (except in cases of murder and the like). By contrast, sentencing a teen to years in prison has almost inevitably bred nothing more than a violent menaces to society.

Yomin, I think you directed this mainly at yourself. I am far from a liberal, nor am I a self-styled "conservative columnist". Nor am I a Internet-wide nuisance. And I think this quote fits you, People who are overly narcissistic commonly feel rejected, humiliated and threatened when criticized.....

I have never said nobody can be rehabilitated. In fact I have 2 sons who were said to be unlikely to make it without going to jail since their home life before living with me was so bad. They were ready to be placed in group homes. Today both are fine young men with jobs. One is even a foster parent & has his own home & 3 lovely grandchildren for me to love. He also is a fireman. So yes I do believe in 2nd chances for some people. However as I have told you & will once again.. I think some people are born bad/evil, (whatever you want to call it). And then there are the people who make the choice to be bad. Do you want to take the chance to let them loose on the rest of us to rape, attack, kill etc? I don't. I don't like Huckabee as a president. I like his show though if that matters.

Now we will deal with my tagteam pal as you say TigersEye. Yomin, face it, he is just smarter then you. He gave the facts & you replied with insults & acting like a baby. You made the choice to attack FReepers when you don't like what they said. That is what people with narcissistic tendencies do. When dealing with TE I suggest you don't pull the tiger's tail. Neither of us have a political agenda here, and you do. So a bit of advice, be nice, have FReeper manners & understand that nobody here on FR has to take your opinions shoved down their throats. You were given sources & chose not to believe them. Now I could take what I read about you & believe all that I read. But I don't. I think some of it makes sense though from your actions on this thread. You never have to post to me again. That is fine by me. But you ought to think about your role here. You were rude much of the time & wanted your own way & didn't get it. You insulted me many times. And other FReepers. I was warned about you & I should have just ignored you. I will in the future. Here is a good example of your rants...He’s now the pinging police, after failing to ping in numerous direct attacks on this thread (not that I care in the least - but it does show why no one takes him seriously). His responses are typical of other inanities and absurdities that he uses on all threads discussing religion. I hope for his sake that Ping Police is a paid job. Like I said, I wear his ridiculous accusations as a badge of honor.

Now was that really necessary? First off it is a Freeper etiquette to ping FReepers when using their name. Are you rude or clueless? I don't see other FReepers who have a problem with this. As for nobody taking TigersEye seriously , I think you are very mistaken, many FReepers like TE & he is respected for his views. He is on many ping lists. Do not make statements you can not back up. You are singling TigersEye out & you singled me out to insult us.

In case you don't recall you said (post 194) meaning TE & myself that we were very mentally challenged people, & In fact, if sane people are reading this, I’m sure they’re astonished that people as clueless as you can actually type.

I also see that many FReepers disagreed with you about Huckabee. Frankly I really don't see him becoming President ever after this tragedy. He won't get the backing of any cop IMHO or their unions. People are very upset, & just because Yomin thinks they shouldn't blame Huckabee doesn't change their minds. So before you claim TE & I are any of the above you better reread this thread & see what FReepers think of your opinions. And do by all means back up the part where nobody takes TE seriously please.

I meant you no ill will. 194 was in response to 191 and a slew of other posts. In retrospect, I should have just let you rant that I’m a “liberal bleeding heart moron.... people like me responsible for deaths.” despite my pro-capital punishment views. Again, I take none of this personally.

None of this has to do with Huckabee. TigersEye’s factual inaccuracies have been thoroughly rebutted - be it the other person’s post or the ludicrous comparisons he’s made. I hope that people do read the thread in its entirety. But as you really don’t seem to want to discuss facts and seem to have taken to quoting internet loons who’ve admittedly ripped off comic dealers I really see no point to continuing this thread. I do wish you well and respect the great contributions that you’ve made in the lives of your children.

TE - I’ve pinged you as per your shrieking requests. Again, I don’t care about the fact that you haven’t done the same on 50 posts on this thread alone, all the while claiming indignation. I only hope that you see fit not to respond - but do as you wish.

I wish you no ill will either. Sadly have taken in children over the years I can tell you some of them were just hopeless. Drug addicts who would have done anything & did for money. One family on my street went through hell with their 2 sons. Prison time didn't work for either of them & trust me the parents had the best lawyers for them. We thought the oldest had kicked his habit but sadly he died. When I saw the 2nd son & we talked I really thought his brother's death & a few friends deaths while he was in prison had made an impression on him. He was very convincing & I thought he would get on with his life. Sadly he didn't & killing a woman during a police chase. Maybe hard time might have helped him, I don't know. I do know parents who enabled these 2 young men didn't help. By the time they realized they were enablers it was too late. One dead son, one son back in jail & a little boy left without a father. It is sad. However I think if both of these boys had stiffer sentences for all the crimes they had committed over the years they both might be here today. This isn't the only case where I wish stiffer sentences had been imposed either. I know of another boy who did a long time in juvie, got out & went back to drugs & died. With him there was little help for him after jail. I used to work with mainly bad boys & like I said I've seen quite a bit. It is sad & heartbreaking.

I know TE doesn't care who likes him or not. He stands by what he says & I respect him for it. If you know you don't agree with him why post to him?

Bless you for the great things you’ve done and for what you’ve tried to do. Hard labor in which the kids have to do months or a year (depending on the sentence) of very hard work from dusk to dawn would probably work better than the current prison system where they sit in boredom doing nothing, sometimes having been sentenced to years of that and learn from murderers, drug dealers, etc. That to me seems like a recipe for disaster. Re TE - My only posts to him were replies.
