Mike Huckabee is a liar. He granted clemency to a dangerous criminal, but wants us to believe everyone would have acted the same way. Huckabee's efforts to shift blame away from himself includes a total fabrication of Maurice Clemmons' extensive criminal history.

Excellent points.
It’s worth adding something I heard on the Michael Medved Show yesterday.
Before Clemmons obtained his clemency, he was something less than a model prisoner. He was involved in acts of violence while in prison. Let’s place a heavy emphasis on the word “acts”.
Huckabee claimed to have read Clemmons’ entire record. I’d have to assume that record included his record while in prison. Maybe it didn’t.
But it stands to reason that huckabee should have taken a look at Clemmons’ conduct while in prison. At that point, he probably (or at least hopefully) would have said “This guy looks like a real POS. There won’t be any clemency order coming from me”.
And I’d also include the parole board as well. It was up to them to look at every aspect of Clemmons’ record BEFORE they considered clemency.
Would you've felt better about it if he was just another Northern Talkin Slicky instead?
Good people tend to see good in everyone. Huckabee probably should have just stayed a minister. The fact that he let too many prisoners out was probably based on trying to bring out the “good” in people .What he didn’t realise is that some folks just don’t have any good in them. The few people that think that he let those people go for some kind of personal gain are full of crap. There was nothing in it for him. Out of the 1000 or so that were let go I’ll be willing to bet that less than 50 ever voted after that. And there’s a good chance they voted democrat if they did.
Iam sure that due to Clemmon’s age, Huckabee was touched to see a life that young wasted. He made a mistake.
I do not support Huck for President. Personally I don’t think he has the leadership skills.
I wonder, though, if folks ought to be helping him over this instead of joining the MSM in attacking him. I don’t know......
The media probably would have spun it that way anyway. If Huck has no credibility now, the media still has less....
My impression is that the MSM isn't really attacking him - they're not using the kinds of loaded expressions you usually get when they're in persecution mode. There's also no full-court press* in which they investigate everything he's ever done, the way they went after Palin. They're treating this as an aberration - an unusual exception that shouldn't affect what they'd like to see as a general rule, paroles that are granted early and often. Conservatives are reading the news and slamming Huck for the facts in plain view - Huck has set free two people who killed after their release.
* I don't think, for instance, that the media have investigated whether the 1000 other people he paroled have since carried out felonies that - Willie Horton-style - did not involve killing people.
Is your browser Internet Explorer?
No way. I use the latest Mozilla Firefox.
This is the nuttiest thing about the justice system. When one side reduces sentences to compensate for the other side, which increases sentences to compensate. At some point someone should realize that no one is accomplishing anything, except to make things more prone to error like the ones that occurred in this case after Huckabee's initial misguided clemency.
Just wanted to point out that the crimes committed by Clemons when he was a juvenile were robbery and assault. He hadn't murdered anyone until later.
WRONG.
Clemmons was 17 when he committed all the crimes except the original one....punching & robbing a 7th grader. Read the article.
Huck is an social conservative who did nothing to advance the cause of social conservatism in Arkansas. He is also an economic liberal. Palin shook up the establishment and went after cherished liberal programs. I don't think it's that they're afraid of her any more than they're afraid of GWB. They will go after anyone who attacks the social and economic programs to which they have become attached. They view her much as a devout Muslim would view an apostate - someone despicable to be shunned and exiled from polite company.
The examiner, however, has a pretty fair article here:Mike Huckabee granted cop killer Clemmons clemency that despite the headline points out the actual timeline and says people are being unfair to Huckabee.
Makes me wonder how many of the Huckster's other gifts to society have repaid us with more of what the Huck forgave.
Huck has reinforced something I learned a few years ago: being a "Governor from Arkansas" should be an automatic disqualifier for anyone seeking higher office.
He's not my huckleberry.
There will be other tragedies associated with the other rapists and murderers he’s had a hand in turning loose on society. For all we know other criminals have already re-offended and their crimes haven’t been discovered yet or tied back to the easy pardon putz. He was way too lenient on these criminals, most do not change. It’s just a matter of time until the next headline.
I wasn't able to copy the warning message it gave me, but incident report said it detected a Trojan program:
Trojan-Downloader.JS.Shadraem.a
Yes, it seems that Mike should have been spending his time trying to build up the Republican Party in AR instead of making it easier for violent criminals to get back out on the streets. But building the GOP in AR was “too hard” for Huckabee, and he failed badly on that mission. I can’t imagine him being a factor in 2012. But I can’t see any of our “candidates” getting elected in 2012 either.
At one point in American history...if you got 40 years in prison...you actually sat for forty years in prison. Then we started to say that five years could be knocked off for good behavior....being the good Christians that we were. Then we said ten years could be knocked off. Then we said that fifteen years could be knocked off. Then we said that twenty years could be knocked off.
So now, with a little help from the governor.....we could give a guy 100 years in prison....and he could walk out at the ten year point.
So why bother with court cases? I think the offended family injured...might as well claim what a Scotsman would claim...the right to retribution...and leave the court out of the system entirely. Why bother with the fairness of the situation...leave it to the offended party to dish out punishment.

“Huckabee and Clemency”
(to the tune of “Yesterday”)
“Clemency, you can get it from Mike Huckabee”
This is too funny. The huckster keeps getting exposed as a complete scumbag. Seems like only yesterday his followers were defending him here on good ol FR.
Good riddance to him and his sheep!
