Mike Huckabee is a liar. He granted clemency to a dangerous criminal, but wants us to believe everyone would have acted the same way. Huckabee's efforts to shift blame away from himself includes a total fabrication of Maurice Clemmons' extensive criminal history.

Wow, heavy charges against Huckabee. I assume he will respond to these latest charges against him. It will be interesting to hear what Huckabee has to say.
To: bigred08
Isn’t he a member of CFR? That tells me all I need to know about him.

Huckabee is toast on this, just like Michael Dukakis was, a’la Willie Horton. And Romney should stay away from defending him or he'll be the jam on the toast.

Huckabee said the crimes were committed when the kid was 16, he was sentenced at 17. That doesn’t make him a liar.

If Huckabee would just come out and say that he made a mistake, then some credibility could be preserved.
Now, the man is exposed as a soft-on-crime liar.

The one year age difference isn’t really the issue. It’s all the other things that Huckleberry lied about. The gun thing, the amount of felonies, etc. I am on pins and needles just waiting for a fake, good-ol’-boy, folksy cliche.

Plus, if you actually read the entire article, you will see that this guy was very violent. Every time he was released from jail for a violent act, he went out and committed another violent act. He obviously did not learn from his mistakes. This shows that he was unable or unwilling to change.

Huckabee lies about Clemmons' age and his extensive criminal record. He is an ordained minister and often talks about the role faith plays in his life. I believe one of the Ten Commandments says something about "Thou shalt not bear false witness." Perhaps Mike Huckabee needs to go back to Sunday school.Really?

I have never bought into the whole juvenile gets off because of age, because the victims are not any less dead.
Such reduced punishments should apply only in case of a really young child who clearly doesn't understand ,and I mean young like pre-school.And if a gun was used then that child never again be permitted to touch a gun.

He obviously did not learn from his mistakes. This shows that he was unable or unwilling to change. And not worthy of commutation or clemency.
More from the article:
There were also three separate courtorom incidents in 1990 where Clemmons tried to use a weapon against a judge, threw a padlock at a bailiff, and tried to take a guard's pistol. A judge ordered Clemmons be placed in leg shackles because he felt Clemmons has threatened him. Clemmons also displayed very erratic behavior during the trial, mumbling loudly throughout the proceedings. He also made an obscene gesture toward one of the witnesses testifying against him.
The commutation by Huckabee of the sentence happened in 2000

This is an excellent article.
It has facts and dates that can be verified.
Mr. Huckabee just gets shiftier every day.
I do not see how Mr. Huckabee could have pardoned him with his bad record while serving time.
Mr. Huckabee, contrary to his claims, must not have read the record.

To me, this is the most deceptive statement by Huckabee:
“I don't know a single person that can look me in the eye and tell me that if they had that same file in front of them they wouldn't believe that maybe 47 years was a more appropriate sentence for what he did as a minor.”
Forty-seven years might seem more appropriate if 47 years actually meant 47 years. It really meant 11 years, as it made him immediately eligible for parole and he was released a month later.
Huckabee obviously knew at the time that 108 years meant 25 to 108 years (he would have been eligible for parole in 2015 if Huckabee had not commuted his sentence) and “47 years” meant he would be released immediately, after only 11 years.

The guy driving the getaway car was also pardoned by Huckabee, cinvicted of a double murder during a holdup.
