The people of Venezuela are living in fear. The militias of the Bolivarian Revolution, armed by President Hugo Chavez, have taken control of the country. Fear sets the tempo of Venezuelan society. With estimates in excess of 18,000 homicides each year (approximately 50 per day), violence dictates the future of the country.

International pressure and internal divisions with Venezuela have forced the Chavez adminstration to radicalize their political stance, including making use of the criminal gans of Caracas, turning them into gneuine death squardrons serving the revolution.

Most of society in Venezuela directly blames these groups for the political violence which is currently gripping the country.

"Colectivos" are criminal gangs, which have been armed by President Hugo Chavez's adminstration, and have been converted to left-wing guerilla groups by the introduction of political indoctrination, in order to act as death squads serving the Bolivarian Revolution, carrying out politically-motivated killings. They are still involved in their traditional criminal activities such as the drug trade.

I am heartsick to see what’s become of one of the jewels of the Americas. I lived there for three years in the 70s, and it was a truly great experience. I’m afraid the tree of liberty needs significant watering.

But...Wouldn't their tagets be influencial conservatives that work and live “in-town”?

By the way...I have often posted that I doubt we will see revolution in the U.S. Instead, it would likely look like the low grade unrest and “disappearances” seen in third world nations.

Is the public armed? Hussein thugs in the US would be met with 50 million deer rifles and 100 million Glocks, S&Ws, Remingtons, Winchesters, Colts..and on and on. It would be a nationwide game of Cowboys and Obama voters. And I guarantee the Cowboys would win again.

That is an interesting supposition. Your crystal ball may be more accurate than mine but I see a potential for resistance to disappearances. Opposing gangs already strike and strike back at each other. There are places in this country where regular citizens will not tolerate gang attacks or "disappearances". Conditions aren't bad enough and I doubt they will get bad enough to spark a real shoot-em-up revolution.
