The confidential medical records of patients treated at one of Britain’s top private hospitals have been illegally sold to undercover investigators.

Hundreds of files containing intimate details of patients’ conditions, home addresses and dates of birth are being offered for as little as £4 each.

The files were sold by two men who claimed to have gained access to the information from IT companies in India, where thousands of British medical records are sent every year to be computerised.

The problem isn’t limited to medical records. Any proprietary technology developed in India is vulnerable to this kind of espionage, since anything in India can be had for a price (usually low).

Hmmm. Any chance we can buy Obama’s medical records for £4? Or even for £10?

How about his birth and academic records? Have those been outsourced yet?

Yup. SolidWorks, a leading mechanical drafting software company, had all their source code stolen when they outsourced their software engineering to India. This is no surprise to those of us that have had the displeasure of working with outsourced Indian labor.

Our software company works with them. Our outsourced Indian IT company are usually caught not helping the customers so our employees cc the execs, and they have no wiggle room to screw up the next time.

You don't have to go to India to buy medical records, there's quite the market right in Las Vegas.

The more we outsource data handling to 3rd world coutnries, the more we’ll see this.

No matter what kind of security system you think you have, hungry people are pretty innovative.

It happens here too, obviously. But, when it is a third world country like India, there is no legal recourse against the offenders.
