A race for mayor of Atlanta headed for a recount on Wednesday after a knife-edge election that exposed a racial fault line running through the biggest city in the U.S. Southeast.
Former state Senator Kasim Reed declared victory overnight when official results from the runoff vote showed him beating city councilwoman Mary Norwood by 758 votes out of 83,000 cast.
But Norwood declined to concede defeat and is almost certain to demand a recount under rules that permit one when less than 1 percent of votes cast separates the candidates.
Norwood, who led an initial round of voting November 3, would be Atlanta's first white mayor since 1974.

I would not doubt that they were involved in some way - can’t have a white win, especially a woman.
Time to bring David BOILS Boies out of retirement!
The day after the primary when Norwoood got 48% to Reed’s 36% Neil Boortz who lives and broadcasts from Atlanta predicted Reed would win because he is Black and Atlanta’s majority population is black.
Wouldn’t you like to have a dollar for every fraudulent vote counted for Reed!
The other problem is that blacks vote for the black guy because he’s black. Whites tend to split their vote with some voting for the black guy because he’s black. Either way, Shirleyville is in for another four years of incompetence and corruption.
Only 83,000 voted in the runoff? I don’t know the total # of registered voters in Atlanta, but that seems pretty pathetic....and 758 is certainly within the RAT/ACORN margin of fraud.
What really irritates me is that vote counts always change on recounts. That is inexcusable in today’s technological age and it casts doubt on all our elections.
Recount? Well its over, the Dem Liberal has won. Is there any doubt how this will turn out?
We need to start winning by margins too great for recount or we will lose every time. We do not have Satan in our pocket like the Liberals do.
Or is it, we are not in Satan’s pocket like the Liberals?
Either way, this race was over and won by the Lib the moment it got too close to call.
Assuming the recount actually manages to reverse the results of this election, there WILL be riots in ‘da ATL.
I have been in Atl on and off for over thirty years. The town “too busy to hate” votes based on race and race only. Once Norwood hit a runoff the winner was predetermined.
Back in the '90s I worked in Georgia for five years as a contract programmer - Savannah and Macon. Personal (wife and I) observations - During that time I saw how the business community rolled over and let the blacks play the one-sided racism card again and again. Whenever a black worker left or was fired, the replacement HAD to be black. If a white and black new hire showed up, the black got it else it was Racist!
Whenever a black was put in a supervisory/hiring position, every new hire was a black. A friend of ours was somewhat mentally handicapped and had a job making rolls in a franchise steakhouse, and did fine for 5-6 years. A black guy became the new boss and of a sudden, the baker was "underperforming" - he was booted out and a black guy took over. Discrimination against the handicapped? - not a chance against black discrimination.
We saw our local DMV office go from 50% black to ALL black in that time.
...but isn't that...racist?
Only racist if it works in favor of the white candidate (who is also no prize, but at least she voted AGAINST a property tax increase. The black candidate voted for it - as all black democrats vote for tax increases)
