“Newt was a tough fighter for years who helped get rid of Jim Wright and Tom Foley. He peaked with the “Contract for America” but was laying the groundwork for it for years. He recruited good people to run for Congress. He directed the overall efforts to elect Republican Congressmen”

I was a Newt fan back then, and for good reason. I don’t know what caused him to change so thoroughly. Sad .

Used to be Newt was tough as nails. I think he developed Stockholm Syndrome. The constant pressure from liberals and living in liberal DC ....he had too much contact with his “captors” and moved gradually part way to their positions. What you have today is a washed out version of the old Newt

But he seems to make a living at being the new and improved Newt

"I was a Newt fan back then, and for good reason. I don’t know what caused him to change so thoroughly."

Well look at all he did for US, the entire "conservative movement.

Then.
When the bastards came after him, 1995ish, completely destroying him. His ideals. His movement?
Where was the entire Right to step-up & defend him? Hmmmmm?

The entire right-wing STFU & threw 'em to the sharks.
And while Newt wasn't the only right-wing pol to suffer such a fate, the disgusting habit almost became SOP. LOL

The biggest transgression I hold Newt responsible for?
His gawd awful big mouth after his expertly engineered takeover of congress in '94.
Was either his big mouth or his big ego but he would NOT shut up about the GOP strategy, HIS agenda, HIS opinion of the republic yadayadayada ad nauseum.

Newt may have meant well talking smack about, for example, Tort Reform; while, neglecting to ever think about the coalition HE himself was fomenting.

As he blabbered the filthy shysters quietly approached the Democrats, made deal(s), offered support --from every quarter their corrupting influence reached-- offered strategies enmasse etc. Still do to this very day, too.

Ol' Newt did the exact same thing when he'd PUBLICLY threaten the entire MSM octopus concerning their aged old leftist bias, also.
Forget the education establishment.

Instead of holding his cards close to the vest & simply acting?
The imbecile took it to the very people he was skewering?
THAT's when *I* started questioning Newt's PhD, my friends. LOL

Each & every time Newt opened his mouth he provided the enemy Left with everything they needed to not just destroy him; but, crush an entire movement.
Was shooting fish in a barrel for chrissakes, in hindsight. LOL

To this very day we're still reeling from the crushing, too. While the MSM octopus isn't nearly as powerful as they once were? They [read: It] still wields clout among the ~60% dolt population. Our only hope most years was that of the 60%, only half would vote; and, when [that] happened?
The Right wins elections, eh?

And about the shysters & their filthy infection?
Well, there aren't fewer of them now than then.
Is there. LOL

"Sad."

Not really, perfectly understandable.
IF one punks-off to some goon & gets decked?
Would any of us entertain the punk asking, "Why was I decked?". LOL

Back then, Gingrich only had to please his local constituency; in the same manner that Pelosi can take positions that outrage a majority of American, but please her local constituency.

Now, Gingrich fancies himself as a potential presidential candidate. He is constantly trying to move leftward in an awkward attempt to enlarge his base of support. He is doing this precisely at a time when the country is beginning to take a hard rightward turn. For all of his supposed brain power, he has not been able to figure this out. He keeps sticking his finger in the air and detects yesterday's wind.

One more thing. He has demonstrated repeatedly that he is perfectly willing to put political considerations above conservative principles.
