Hours before he was set to address the nation on his new Afghanistan strategy, President Obama and members of his war council spent about an hour briefing senior members of Congress at a White House meeting.

Three GOP sources told CNN that Sen. John McCain used the meeting to directly challenge the president on his exit strategy.

The sources said that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell deferred to McCain, who questioned the concept of announcing now plans to begin withdrawing in July, 2011.

NOW McCain chooses to challenge Obama?

Too bad he couldn't rise to the occasion during the election.

McLame should suspend his 2010 senate re-election campaign until Obama does something about Afghanistan.

“These sources said the president responded to McCain by promising that the withdrawal would be based on conditions on the ground.”

Obama can’t have it both ways — if he is going to base withdrawal on conditions on the ground, then how can he announce the start of withdrawal in 2011, nobody knows what the conditions on the ground will be at the time.

By announcing a withdrawal date, Obama is sending a message to the Taliban and the terrorists, that all they have to do is just hang in there for another year and a half or so.

Withdrawal is something Obama’s father should have practiced 47 years ago.

We didn’t announce D-Day. We kept it secret. We won.

Same for dropping two bombs on Japan which won it.

If you tell the enemy how many troops you are sending, how long they will stay—these cunning muslims will slither away and wait.

That is what they initially did in Iraq, and it cost us a lot of lives, time and money to recover.

These people are patient. Therefore kill many, many more of them; civilian casualties be damned.

The Gerries and Japs certainly didn’t like us, but they sure as hell respected us. Still do, and we are still there, too.

This muslim element needs to be destroyed, and their enablers need to pay such a huge price that they stop enabling (that means the rest of the “peaceful” ones).

Just last week he was on one of the local talk radio shows emphasizing how much he respects the Democrats.

Well fine and dandy, he oh so respects them. Didn't say why he respects them. He just does.

So, why vote for you, Johnnie? Let's vote for an all-in Democrat.

Cheney is the one who gives us straight talk, he is not afraid to tell it like it is. I wish others would do the same, then the Dems would not be able to pull the wool over the eyes of the American people with phoney rhetoric.

Yup.

It’s a political decision and not a military one. Hence the July 2011 withdrawal.

Call me cynical, but I forsee a big release of "Obama money" at about the same time, for the same reason.

I’m really not interested in anything John McCain has to say. He trashed Sarah Palin during and after his miserable excuse for a campaign. He pushed amnesty for millions of illegal aliens who violated our national sovreignty by sneaking into the country.

McCain even had Juan Hernandez working on his (McCain’s) campaign. (Hernandez is the Mexican who worked for Vincente Fox and urged Mexican U.S. citizens to hold dual citizenship in ordr to vote in both countries.) McCain is arrogant and unfit for public office. He ought to shut his mouth and disappear. If he trys to run again it will prove that he is deranged.

I predict an economic stimulus bill (Democrat Voter Slush Fund) will be attached to the next defense spending bill.
