Pierce (county, WA) prosecutor gives first details how friends/relatives helped Clemmons escape
The News Tribune (Tacoma WA) ^ | 12/1/09 | Stacey Mulick

At least a half-dozen friends and relatives of Maurice Clemmons helped him flee the Parkland coffee shop where he killed four police officers, helped him clean up and treat a bullet wound and took him to a house in the Leschi house in Seattle.

Two of them have been arrested for rendering criminal assistance based on a probable cause declaration. They are Eddie Lee Davis and Douglas Edward Davis who live in a residence on 132nd Street South.

According to the declaration of Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist, the two were among six who helped Clemmons after the Sunday morning shootings.

Here is how investigators piece together the events after the shooting Sunday morning:

After shooting the officers and struggling with one in the doorway of the coffee shop, Clemmons walked to a white pickup truck driven by a still unnamed man. The truck, parked at a carwash at 112th Street and Steel Street, drove away at a high rate of speed.

That truck was abandoned nearby and Clemmons later appeared on foot at a residence on 132nd Street South where Rickey Hinton lived. Clemmons had been at the house the night before and had borrowed the keys to the white pickup.

When he returned Sunday he told Hinton he had been shot and that the cops had shot him.

Clemmons woke up Eddie and Douglas Davis. Both told police later that Clemmons had told them he had "taken care of his business" and both said they understood that to mean he had shot or killed police officers. The night before, Clemmons had showed two handguns to the men and said he was going to shoot police.

Hinton gave the keys to a white Pontiac to Eddie Davis and told him to get Clemmons out of there. While driving northbound, Clemmons gave Douglas a cell phone and asked him to make two phone calls. The three men arrived at a house in Algona-Pacific.

A female relative of Clemmons lives there and once inside Douglas Davis and the relative helped Clemmons clean a gunshot wound to his torso. Clemmons then changed clothes and put his other clothes into a bag.

From that house, Clemmons got into a car driven by the female relative.

Eddie and Douglas Davis got back into the Pontiac. Both cars were driven to the Auburn Super Mall.

At the Super Mall, the group met up with a third car driven by a female.

All three cars drove to another residence where Clemmons got into the females small white car and left.

Officers had received information that Clemmons was related to residents of a house in Seattle's Leschi neighborhood. When they arrived they saw a black man on foot near the house and a small white car leaving the area.

They stopped the car and spoke to the driver. She said she was a friend of Clemmons and admitted that she had met him in a parking lot, taken him to her residence. She purchased medical supplies to treat his gunshot wound, did a load of laundry and then drove him to the Leschi house. She said he told her he had killed a police officer or officers in the coffee shop.

The residents of the Leschi house said they had received a call from Clemmons asking if he could come to their house. They initially agreed but after speaking to relatives in Algona-Pacific, they fled the house and drove to a Seattle police precinct and reported the information.

The last execution was 2001 so it's seldom carried out.

Are they all Black Muslims as the murderer was?
Every last one of these accomplices should be tried, convicted and sentenced to decades in prison. We cannot tolerate this scum declaring war on our society.

WA has the death penalty. They just rarely use it. The Left makes it too expensive to do so by filing appeals, etc, etc.

At least someone had a little sense, saved their ass from
a heap of trouble.

Clemmons had been at the house the night before and had borrowed the keys to the white pickup.

This one and the guy who drove the pickup appear not to be accessories but actual accomplices. Does Washington have the felony murder doctrine?

it was not Huckabees fault...think about it...the 17 yro got 85 yrs for non-murder,non-rape,non-kidnapping...that seems excessive....

so I am past blaming Huckabee....

I blame the Washington officials...the monster was in jail for raping a 12 yro and punching a cop..not only that, he threatened the cops and the psychologists said he was dangerous.....

so why was his bail light eoungh for him to get out of jail?....just a few days before?

Oh no, you can’t do that. According to people on FR, the only person at fault is Huckabee. (Yah, that’s sarcasm..)

Holy crap. That's right at the bottom of the hill from where I live. I drove through there half a dozen times getting from my house to the 167 while all this was going on.

Anyone who helped this criminal out should be EXECUTED....they are accesories to murder of four police officers

I do go along with full prosecution with maximum sentences, death sentences where legal, but I wish the issue was not that he killed four police officers, but that he killed four people. Kind of the “hate crime” distinction being used. No one’s murder is more heinous than another’s, be they queer, colored, or cops.

“But I heard Mike Gallagher today on the radio saying that this was Huckabee’s fault and no one else’s.”

I agree with you, definitely Huckabee’s fault, and 4 cops would be alive today if it weren’t for his usurping of the justice system.

There's plenty of blame to go around. Huckabee was the first in a long line of mistakes.

The most egregious one was the fact that he was allowed to post bail a week ago with more than half dozen felonies pending and a very violent criminal history.

Had the judge here in Washington denied bail, those officers would be alive today.

True - and I’ll turn my attention to those judges should they seek higher office. But right now, Huckabee is the one who can ruin a lot more lives if he is not stopped, and he was getting into the role of derailing Palin (just as he did to Romney...which got us Obama). He gets all of my attention now, and I’ll worry about the judges when that makes sense.

I wish our guys wouldn’t insist on legitimizing this hate crime stuff. That whole concept has no place in our society. The USSR and its proteges criminalized thought. That is whence it was imported into our own country.

It’s the only way to get the Pravda Media to drop the issue is to force them to smash the Stalinist “all animals are equal, some are more equal than others” mantra that IS hate crime legislation.

This was not a shooting where he was afraid he was going to get caught so he shot them like a trapped rat trying to escape. He hunted them down. An act of hate. One of these things is not like the other.

I’m not a Huckabee fan, I voted for Alan Keyes in 2008’s primary (one of the remaining candidates by the time they got to Texas).

Huckabee did release this man. And his actions had disasterous results. He did so on the advice of the sentencing judge himself as well as a parole review board.

This is also different than Michael Dukakis’ Willie Horton scandal. Willie did his crimes while out on unescorted LEAVE from prison. WTF? Since when do prisoners get weekends off? This was the scandal of Dukakis/Horton. The man is still serving his time (not out on parole) and still granted his freedom periodically.
