I think we should be taking the possibility of a Dick Cheney bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012 more seriously, for a run would be good for the Republicans and good for the country. (The sound you just heard in the background was liberal readers spitting out their lattes.)
Why? Because Cheney is a man of conviction, has a record on which he can be judged, and whatever the result, there could be no ambiguity about the will of the people. The best way to settle arguments is by having what we used to call full and frank exchanges about the issues, and then voting. A contest between Dick Cheney and Barack Obama would offer us a bracing referendum on competing visions.
One of the problems with governance since the election of Bill Clinton has been the resolute refusal of the opposition party (the GOP from 1993 to 2001, the Democrats from 2001 to 2009, and now the GOP again in the Obama years) to concede that the president, by virtue of his victory, has a mandate to take the country in a given direction.
A Cheney victory would mean that America preferred a vigorous unilateralism to President Obama's unapologetic multilateralism, and vice versa
No one foresaw Cheney's reemergence as a force in the politics of the 21st century until it happened. So perhaps the pattern is set, a pattern of insistent denial of interestuntil it turns out that, hey, he is interested.
Cheney's memoirs are due to be publishedand thus due to be promotedin the spring of 2011, not long before the caucuses and primaries begin. I'll bet you that the Barnes & Noble in Des Moines (there's a big one at The Shoppes at Three Fountains) is on the book tour

Oh, gawd, yes.
Obama would look like a Mad Magazine cover.
Yup.
If Cheney, they will run the Old-White-guy-with-blood-on-his-hands playbook on him.
If its Palin, its the dangerous-bimbo-whos-a-creationist-fundie-nutcase-who-shoots-wolves-from-helicopters playbook on her.
If Romney, its the uncaring-rich-white-guy-venture-capitalist-corporate-suit playbook.
And if Jesus came and walked on water and fed the hungry with 5 loaves and fishes and was a Republican, they’d say he cant swim and was trying to bankrupt bakers and fishermen.
Tina Fey has had a few months to mock Palin, to be sure.
But we still don’t know whether Governor Palin can break through that when not constrained by Gentle Juan McCain.
Potential, politically, is only a measure of what MAY be. What WILL be is a matter of realizing potential.
We’ll see if Sarah Palin has only potential, or if she can realize it as well.
We’ll see the same for Dick Cheney.
Hey FACLUmember, regarding “10 Ways Dick Cheney can kill you”....I laughed so hard I cried & PEED...it’s now my desktop and firmly planted there for as long as I continue to laugh at it. THANKS!!!
“Dick Cheney should run for President in 2012 because we want 4 more years of Obama and need a Republican candidate with a heart condition to help ensure that happens.”
R-Rated 2012 Campaign Poster. Children under 17 must be accompanied by a parent:
I would definitely say those are ten good reasons to vote for Dick Cheney, but he ain’t runnin’.
There is no other candidate out there who would excite me more than Sarah Palin winning White House.
However I am leery of the unwashed masses who watch more shows such as Desperate Housewives than Hannity. Their perception of Sarah is what scares me. They are too easily swayed.
Never ignore reality.
Never assume that an electrical engineer doesn’t understand the full meaning of the word “potential”. ;-P
I have faith in Cheney, the rest of the world absolutely knows he has background and experience and would not dare to test him with political games.
So what if he has a bad heart, the issue people are missing here is that he HAS a heart unlike the current occupant in the WH. And a candle that burns at both ends may burn out faster it also burns brighter unlike the dim illumination America is getting from a dim-wit, again the current occupier in the WH.
Probably the best bet available this next election is the Cheney/Palin ticket, I honestly see no other candidates that have the proper views, experience and conviction of loyalty.
Again yet something that is obviously lacking in the WH.
