I’d bet if this is true that the RINO leadership of the Republican Party solicited them to join their “BIG TENT”.

GILMER The Upshur County Republican Party has five additional elected officials. Five Democrats announced on the courthouse steps Tuesday morning that they are changing parties. MORE COVERAGE RELATED STORY: Upshur County District Judge announces re-election bid Sheriff Anthony Betterton, County Judge Dean Fowler, District Clerk Carolyn Bullock Parrott, Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Lyle Potter and Precinct 2 Constable Jason Weeks said that when election filing starts in a few days, they'll be registering to run as Republicans. Upshur County remained an East Texas Democratic stronghold until the November 2008 election. The county is about 75 percent Republican, based on the results of the 2008 presidential election in which Sen. John McCain received 11,222 votes to Barack Obama's 3,790 votes. A record 3,821 straight-ticket Republican votes were cast in the election.
