The Harlem Gospel Choir has backed out of a holiday performance with controversial conservative talk-show host Glenn Beck, the Daily News has learned.
The famous choir, which has performed for Nelson Mandela and Pope John Paul II, was set to appear in the simulcast film of Beck's novel "The Christmas Sweater - A Return to Redemption," which opens Thursday in theaters nationwide.
The choir canceled the appearance Monday, citing financial reasons.
James Rucker, executive director of Color for Change - which has helped persuade more than 80 advertisers to ditch Beck's show - said the group did an about-face after he called the choir.
"We wanted to make sure they understood who Beck was," Rucker said. "We believe their mission is about spreading the Gospel and and promoting harmony, and we thought Beck was the antithesis of that."
Rucker said the choir's director, Allen Bailey, was hesitant at first.
"They said they didn't know about Glenn Beck," Rucker said. "Their first reaction was, 'Maybe he's a redeemed man.'"
Rucker sent the choir excerpts from some of Beck's shows, including one where he said President Obama "has a deep-seated hatred for white people."
Anna Bailey, the choir's manager, said the decision to pull out was purely financial.
"I had to gracefully back out," she said. "There wasn't enough money to pay our agent's commission. "

Not enough money...yeah right. The left sure isn’t embarrassed about being anti-free speech.
I was thinking of going to see this show - wonder who Glenn will come up with?
big time B S
the last line says it all about the “commission” crock
Just as I would not expect the mormon tabernacle choir to sing for the pope, I would not expect a Gospel group to sing for a mormon “Evangelist” (and yes he is if only part time)
So there is a blacklist. And Hollywood supports it.
Hmm. We heard this was so bad when Hollywood Reds had to change their names so that Communist symapthizers could still employ them while lying to the public about who made the films.
I was going to say too bad it was not for spiritual reasons...
Puts the Harlem choir on the check list of ObaMao entities that weenied out to the tyrant.
They can suck eggs for credibility.
“They said they didn’t know about Glenn Beck,” Rucker said
These people must live under a rock .
Not unusual really I doubt most blacks in Harlem know anything about politics of Conservatives, they just vote how their Dem precinct pimps tell them to.
What, more blacklisting, intolerance, racism, and propaganda from Van Jones’ pet group? I’m shocked.

I like Glen, but he’s a Mormon and I won’t accept any “Gospel” from him.
Unless you're a white person intent on "fundamentally changing" America. That's unfortunate the group backed out. Hopefully there was another group waiting for an opportunity like this.
Granted, but I doubt “Color of Change” cares about the Gospel at all.
They do care about the gospel. It’s just the gospel according to Reverend Wright.
