Not really that surprising. Look at the state religions of our age.

Global warming, environmentalism, all view people as a disease and animals as more noble and pure. The only wonder is that the percentage isn't higher.

Pretty sure Gandhi( a Hindu or something) said that one can tell a lot about a society by how it treats the animals.
And he’s right.
Here in O-heil-o, the dogs and cats suffer a great deal at the hands of Amish puppy-mill owners, stupid legislators, dark-age hicks and hoodlums in the non-govt population,and so on and so forth.
It’s certainly not a civilized society in which I live.
