No no, Chaffetz is the man. A real true conservative and we need much more like him. I can sum up my reply in three words:
Rules of engagement.
Our troops aren’t being allowed to win. Why leave them there?
One thing I will say is that this shouldn’t have been done so vocally. But guys like Chaffetz’ and Alan Wests’ too far and few between.
-———not what you think he should have said or done: cut-and-run.—————
Based on what the rules of engagement are, we have already cut and run. That and Obama’s lack of interest in victory.
Our soldiers are there in body only.
—————If you want a counterinsurgency mission against the Taliban then you will have to accept those rules of engagement. —————
The current rules we have muzzle our troops! They’re clearly unacceptable.
-————It is defeatist to undermine our national defense morale by getting deeper into Obamas Afghan rathole.-————
On it’s face I agree with this statement.
The rules are a bigger enemy than the taliban and al qaeda are.
-———This isnt courageous, it is defeatist.-—————
It’s not defeatist. Our current rules have already secured us defeat.
If our government refuses to fight to win, then extricating our troops is the one and only action that makes sense.
I’d rather stay and win. But these rules make it impossible.
Afghanistan: Mr. President, My Recommendations (November 30, 2009)
I do agree with him on these points: "First, we must define the mission" and "Second, we must redefine the Rules of Engagement."
But I think he undercuts those statements when he says "Mr. President, it is time to bring our troops home." It comes across as defeatist.
The Afghanistan Taliban has not be defeated. In fact, they are in close collusion with the Pakistani Taliban. If Pakistan falls, and there is no counter-insurgency to fight and prevent it, the Taliban will control its nuclear arsenal.
I agree that Obama should define the war and his ideas for victory clearly for the American people tomorrow at West Point.
When I am allowed to keep my money, your question might have some meaning in the real world. Right now, however, you and other supporters of Obama's War are pointing a gun at my head to pay like it or not. In this respect, the process is no different that Obama's stimulus and Obamacare.
Not only that, he comes across as a pandering grand stander trying to get some attention by using leftist talking points. Maybe Huntsman needs an assistant in China because that is what this idiot is destined for.
You sir, are a genuine walking, talking, and breathing contradiction. Was it not you who mentioned: “It is not Obama’s War, it is America’s war”?
You spew garbage and don’t back it with anything remotely resembling credible or valid sourcing and yet, continue to spew out fallicious BS in the form of “The remnants of Al Qaeda, which is virtually destroyed...” Your either a pathetic and blatant idiot or one who is simply an idiot altogether.
It is a pure freakin shame I served in Iraq and Afghanistan risking my life daily for idiots like you, but hey, right? How’s life being a glorified armchair general do for you these days? lulz. =.=
One of the few specific directives for congress and the president written into the U.S. Constitution is funding and maintaining a military.
Have the courage to follow through with your thinking: support de-funding the Afghan War and de-fund our troops. Then you can call it Obama's War that he lost and you can revel in it.
The ROE in Afghanistan are just obscene; yet the idea of abandoning any innocent civilians and their children to the Taliban just makes me sick.
I am particularly angry that there doesn't seem to have been any coherant PLAN when we first entered Afghanistan and now the chatter on places like Air America is that our soldiers are simply guarding the "pipeline routes" and the Rummy wouldn't let them capture Osama bin Laden.
I wonder what the Israeli take on Afghanistan is?? Seriously, I've not read any critiques from the "Bibi" point of view.
I don't see that he has any opinion on it.
It is. And, there doesn't seem to be any good reason for it. Strange.
Shucks...
We kill that many by CHOICE almost every day of the year!
Dern near 1,000,000 each year.
I NEVER said it was America's War. I have consistently called it Obama's war since he took office. You are confusing me with someone else. If you have evidence to the contrary, please provide it. Next time, be more careful before you start giving soapbox, finger wagging. lectures.
Thank you very much, Nachum — it would have taking me DAYS of online searching to find out there was nothing to find, LOL
Been there, done that. :)
“It is not Obama’s War, it is America’s war.
I support victory.”
Exactly!
This war started hundreds of years ago with the Crusades.
We the United States got dragged into it during the First and Second Barbary Wars (1801-1805, 1815) and we’ve been fighting this war ever since.
What pResident man-child and his bootlickers can not see is that islam is at war with Western Civilization, yet man-child has already surrendered by saying that we are not at war with islam.
Let see, what were those stupid Crusades all about again?
