Police surround Seattle home where person of interest in police shooting may be hiding A SWAT team and police negotiators surrounded a Leschi home in Seattle where the man sought for questioning in the Lakewood police shooting may be hiding. By Seattle Times staff A SWAT team and police negotiators surrounded a Leschi home in Seattle where the man sought for questioning in the Lakewood police shooting may be hiding. Police responded to the home at East Yesler Way and 32nd Avenue South where police stopped a woman who was leaving the home. She told them Maurice Clemmons was on the property and bleeding, according to a law enforcement source. The woman told police that someone had dropped Clemmons off at the home. The source also said police had received tips about two other properties they needed to search, in Queen Anne and Renton. At 8:44 p.m., Seattle police received information that the person of interest may be in a Leschi home, according to Seattle police spokesman Jeff Kappel. Police are now trying to confirm the identity of the person inside. Police blocked off the street at East Yesler and 30th Avenue South. Police are telling residents to stay indoors and keep their doors locked.

Its amazing to me how the cops handle all of the real -life chaos, and then add in the sometimes confusing radio traffic. AND today - add in the extra stress of keeping an eye out for the cop killer. AND - on every stop, wonder if it might be some other nut targeting a cop. (Recall the Halloween cop shooting here.)

Amazing isn't it? It takes guts to be a cop anywhere, the big cities even moreso. I am also in awe of the dispatchers. Amazing group of people.

I’m awake now, having finally completed my Sunday night’s sleep. This reminds me a bit of the search for Patty Hearst. The guy’s definitely getting help, so they’re rolling up his buddies one by one. If he’s really gut shot, he’s going to ‘wash up on shore’ someplace pretty quick. Mostly what we’re listening to is just the periphery of the investigation. I suspect it’ll be the leg work happening behind the scenes that turns him up now.

Welcome back. Hope you’re all rested up. Scanner is on but no related chatter.

You remember Patty Hearst, goodness. Folks don’t believe me when I tell them about the Panthers, Weathermen, SDS et al.

You slept? That’s NOT permitted!!!

Welcome back to duty. :) I’ve got the scanner on now, but I just “can’t” stay up late like I did last night. I’m glad you said they’re picking up his pals one by one. He’s home in the hood with plenty of gutter rats happy to help him.

Those poor police officers. I want this to conclude for their sake. Bleed out, Clemmons, bleed out. I wish him the most horrid of infections.

ARGH, I am back and depressed. Listened to the news all the way down and back. I think this guy has done it yet again.

He is probably out of the state by now and easily enough. They need to hang the judge that changed his bail and the family and friends that helped him as stand-ins.

This is a terrible message to send to the kids of the cops who were killed.

The governor was on tv saying they could have whatever they needed to catch this scum. He has perhaps a high school education, I heard him again on the radio today in the interview he gave to local media here on 7/5/08 after a home burned down from fireworks. (He was apparently the landlord of the place and said houses can be replaced but people cannot. No kidding.)

Anyway with no resources it seems, other than family and friends, he has pulled off one amazing escape from justice after another.

Just as we were coming home we saw a Lakewood police car cruising. It was sad to think about the driver and how hard it must be for him or her to be working, perhaps in place of one of the four fallen officers. No make that murdered officers.

And Amom, you are right, because I am a healthcare professional. Stomach shots can be deadly and quickly. Peritonitis is very painful. What I am afraid of is that he was in the backseat of a car being driven to another state and died. Now the relative or friend has a choice - turn in the body and be nailed for accomplice, or dump it. Betcha they dump it. So we may never know if he escaped or died, even.

Tomorrow morning marks the deadly 48 hour deadline at which, I understand, statistically the trail goes ice cold. So there it is. Justice in America. I am seriously depressed about this.

If some dingdong like this guy can walk in and take out 4 police, with pretty non-existent language skills and a background in landscaping, then escape this huge manhunt - well it just doesn't bode well for the other police officers out there, imo.

The Fox reporter did not know the identity of the party who paid the bail money to the bail bondsman.

In Chehalis, I read.

here is their statement

Good evening and welcome home. Glad you are back. Please don’t be too depressed because I don’t believe he has slipped away...he can’t get far enough away from all the LEO there is. I once watched the dogged tracking of a cop killer awhile back...it took awhile partially because he’s slipped out of the country with the help of his friends. He was brought to justice...and sits where we can keep a good close eye on him. May not be ideal but it’s better than nothing.

I saw that Tina (the female officer killed by this piece of meat) was a Tea Party person.

Oh dear, MarMema. I pray you’re thoughts are wrong and I know you hope you’re wrong too, but your comments make a lot of sense.

It’s like he’s disappeared. He must have one amazing network and surely the police have rap sheets on his relatives and associates and I would think they’ve either got them in custody or have them under close scrutiny.

You all know the area and I can only surmise that it would be relatively easy to hide amongst the gutter rats, particularly if the police are kept busy responding to false reports.

I think you’re right about the 48 hour period before the trail goes cold. There’s still the matter of the reward money. Would his relatives rather dump the body or try to claim the money? I’ll go with the latter choice. Greed would likely prevail, if he’s dead.

Also in case you had not seen this Maurice Clemmons, 37, the suspect in the shooting reported told friends that they should watch the news the following day because he was going to shoot police officers. Nobody reported the statements to police.

At least two African Americans, one female and one male, called in to the talk show here today and said white people don't get it. African Americans hate the police, they said.

Yeah, sorry for the pity party. I just hate it that this guy is still out there. SOOOOO much.

They did say one of his family members is in jail, but his wife is missing. So she is one for sure who is helping him.

I believe that things are different for a mass murderer of police officers. Informants are likely having earnest conversations with homicide detectives right at this moment. There will be no unintended leaks either.

Thanks for that link. I find this of interest:

"...We met with Clemmons twice during the week of the 23rd, once when he was released and again on the 24th. Nothing at that time seemed out of the ordinary. None of the people co-signing for him said anything about his mental status ...Had we known Clemmons was telling people he was "Jesus" or that the "world was going to end" soon and to "watch the news"..."

His family has proved themselves to be savvy to the system and how to play it. I will bet you they are stating these things to set up a mental claim in order for him to avoid life. We already know they are partners in his crimes.

I’m starting to wonder just how bad the SOB was hit,,,

IIRC it was reported that he “Ran” after being shot,,,

No report of him being knocked down by the shot...

Oh, some of us "get it." We're just racists if we say so. The double standard rears its ugly head yet again.

Good point. Informants are likely scrambling for information, given the reward money.

“Shot in the torso” and “shot in the abdomen” = a bit of a conflict. I have heard both.
