Huckabee had a reputation for granting pardons, paroles, and sentence commutations.

He was a “sucker” for inmates claiming they were “born again” Christians.

I was aware of this personally. In our case, Huckabee did nothing, more or less “tabling” the commutation request.
My understanding is that if the Governor denies the request, the requests end there. If he does nothing, the inmate can bring the request again.

The Governor after Huckabee did the same — he did nothing.

Huckabee is an idiot, that is a given. Huckabee bought into restorative justice and rehabilitation instead of punishment. He may have been influenced by his religion, or he might not. Most post modernists don’t believe in traditional religious thought. They view religion as a sociology movement. I put Huckabee in this category. He was/is a big government, nanny state, restorative justice, advocate.

If you are going to blame Huckabee, you must condemn restorative justice as a whole and blame the authorities in WA for ignoring the fugitive warrant against Clemmons and the eight felony charges that were pending against Clemmons.

This what I read: Huckabee pardon & commuated 1033 while Gov. for 10 years. That one out of prison ever 4 days.
One he let out for rape of young cheer leader in Ark. and as part of getting out of prison was he had to leave State. He did and raped and killed a wonen with 3 kids in Missouri.
I think there should be a LAW when elected officials commute or parden someone they have to live next door to them or in there neighborhood. And let them worry about there coming and going with rapist, kill and law breakers living by them.
Huckabee also wanted 20 million illegals to become citizens and have free college for them. And we all no they killed and raped many in USA and nothing done to them... This is a outrage and disgrace!

I have a brother in law who is a “Born Again” type. They guy has defrauded banks out of almost a million dollars over the last 20 years. He would rob you blind and is a spoiled SOB. Usually I have found that a number of those who are “Born Again” are the first to stab you in the back, but hey at least they go to church to make things all better every Sunday....

The prosecutor opposed the clemency, the parole board supported it. Huckabee took a pass and let the parole board go forward. Hucabee virtually voted, “present”. Huckabee beleives in restorative justice and rehabilitation. Huckabee is an idiot.

You can condemn Huckabee if you want, but you must also condemn the philosophy behind the clemency, restorative justice. Whatever Huckabee did, WA state doubled down on. This murder took place in WA, six days after WA state refused to honor a fugitive warrant from Arkansas and ignored the eight felony charges facing Clemmons.

never understood why people vote for someone because they might have something in common like religion/color in bozo’s case etc

It’;s why this country is fast going down, many do not look at what that person stands for.
Ask blacks if they support homosexuals, and they’ll say hell no but they still vote for him.
My mother in law up in MA votes Dem all the time and yet she is against abortion, homosexuals illegals and higher taxes.
I know what the hell is up with that vote and she answers well I have always voted for the Dems since JFK
AAAARRGGHHHH

He got that vote Huckabee did because of his religious background and so many evangelicals came out to vote for him.

I do condemn the philosophy behind the clemency. I’m also southern baptist so it’s not something that the denomination teaches as far as letting violent criminals go free.

Yes the state of Washington has the same blood on their hands but had the governor and former SBC preacher used his God given sense this violent sociopath wouldn’t have been free to continue brutalizing society.

Blaming Huckabee is just not going to fly.

Au contraire! IF [and that is a BIG IF ] huckabee had NOT paroled clemmons there would have NEVER been any additional crimes for WA state to prosecute!

Agreed, that WA state officials should have stopped this 'run away car'...but huckabee is the idiot that gassed the car up, put the key in the ignition, jumped out and gave 'the car' a huge push down hill!!!

It is SO huckabee's fault!!!

Not a Huckabee fan, but if the guy was freed 9 years ago, I think there may be some distance between the one event and the killing of 4 cops in WA.

According to stories dating back for years, Huckabee was reckless in who he granted clemency to.

This story, from the Arkansas Leader, is from 2004:

Huckabee, prosecutors go on offensive (^)

Several prosecutors around the state are upset with Gov. Huckabee for grant- ing clemency to violent criminals, but he is blaming the prosecutors for often not seeking the maximum penalty and keeping felons locked up longer.

Maurice Clemmons is mentioned in this article, btw, held up as an example of Huckabee's reckless disregard for public safety and the rule of law.

During his trial and after he was convicted in Arkansas, he developed a pattern of threatening law enforcement officers. Huckabee still set him free.

STATE of Arkansas v. Maurice CLEMMONS (^)

Do a search for the word "threat" (no quotes) on that page and prepare to be shocked that his animal was ever released.

The blood of four police officers is on Mike Huckabee's hands.

I know it's popular, especially around here, to blame the Huckster, for the release of the POS that killed the 4 LEO’s in WA, but the latest to release the murderer was Judge FELNAGLE, correct? Didn't FELNAGLE overturn another judge's ruling to deny bail, setting the now known amount of $150,000 ($15,000 cash) and why aren't we hearing about this travesty?

One of FELNAGLE'S listed charities in his bio. is Save the Children. Where's the OUTRAGE???

Yeah, the distance is 9 years. A distinction probably lost on the cops' families.

There's a reason violent criminals are put away for life, or executed.

Two strikes and you're out. The Huskster is through for good.

Nice going Huck. That’s five dead so far, unless someone forged your signatures on the clemency papers.

What the he!! was Huckabee thinking???

I honestly do not know.

I do know that this isn't the first time that Huckabee has had blow back from one of his many questionable clemency cases. And it isn't the first time he's blamed everyone but himself for his decisions.

This is from 2007:

A young lady named Ashley Stevens (I am naming her because the papers name her - I presume she allowed herself to be named) was raped by a criminal by the name of Wayne Dumond. She was 17 when she was raped, and he got a life sentence plus 20 years.

In spite of the fact that Dumond's victims publicly begged Huckabee not to release him, he did.

After Wayne Dumond got out, went on to rape and murder another innocent woman. Dumond eventually died in jail.

Prior to granting Wayne Dumond parole, Huckabee told his victim that he thought Dumond was innocent:

The Huffington Post, an online newspaper, escalated the matter Tuesday with the disclosure of several letters from women who said Dumond raped or had threatened to rape them. The women, whose names are blacked out in the Huffington Post story, asked Huckabee to do what he could as governor to keep Dumond behind bars.

Huckabee did not say yesterday whether he had read those letters. But in 1996, he spoke to the victim of the 1984 rape, Ashley Stevens, who told the Globe in an October interview that Huckabee "seemed to have already made up his mind. He just thought that Dumond was innocent."

Huckabee defends his role in Ark. rapist's parole case (^)

I defy any Huckabee supporter to try to put a good face on this. It cannot be done.

One of FELNAGLE'S listed charities in his bio. is Save the Children. Where's the OUTRAGE???

Four points:

1). This isn't the first Huckabee clemency that ended in murder and mahem. Not by a long shot.

2). Judges often have what the court (the prosecutor) gives them as far as the defendant's record. We don't know what this judge knew.

On the other hand, we know what Huckabee knew and we know that in at least one other case, the criminal's (Wayne Dumond) victims begged Huckabee not to release him. Huckabee, saying that he thought the rapist's life sentence was harsh, released him. Wayne Dumond went on to rape and murder another innocent person.

Until we know what the judge knew, I'll save my outrage for Huckabee, who absolutely did know, and let criminals lose to rape and murder women and children anyway.

3). If Felnagle messed this up, he would have never had a chance to do so if Huckabee hadn't set the ball in motion.

4). Huckabee has blamed everyone but himself when the rabid animals he released over the protestations of victims and prosecutors went on to claim more lives. That is not the sign of a leader or even that of a decent human being. People are dead and mangled because of what Mike Huckabee did. He needs to man up and admit his part in all this.
