The natural position of the scientist is that of a skeptic until accurate, repeatable experiments show something to be true. The ballyhoo crowd are businessmen. Crooked ones, at that.
For any "Atlas Shrugged" fans out there, Ayn Rand weaves scientific "consensus-building" into the story...and this was 50 years ago...long before all this global warming alarm-ism. There's nothing new under the sun.
