Another remnant of the Cold War gone.
Flyvet, 2192 CS, Loring AFB, ME '86-'90. We were the continental base closest to the USSR via the circle route, nuke-loaded B-52s on alert 24/7.
Left some fond memories up there. The great outdoors.

We put the first B-52D's on alert at Loring with nukes in Oct of 1957. I was a 2nd Lt. navigator in the 75th BS, not even checked out or qualified yet, but assigned to a combat crew and pulling alert. It was a new experience for everyone.

27th FIS, Loring AFB, ME '64-66, Falcon Missile Shop...great place to be stationed, even for a Georgia boy. I hated to see it close.
In fact, all of my bases, Lowry, Loring, and Hahn AB, Germany have been closed down.
