Windows 7 sales are up and Microsoft is please with the success of its Windows 7 upgrade.
While Apple seems to be content with going negative when it comes to commercials touting its computing products, Microsoft has taken a different route with Windows 7. Apple has focused more on bashing Windows 7 (and the faults of its predecessors) rather than focus on the main strengths of the OS X platform. Microsoft, on the other hand, has created positive ads which tout the new features in Windows 7.
It appears that Microsofts positive route along with relatively positive reviews have led to some rather impressive sales numbers for the latest and greatest from Redmond, Washington. According to NPD Group, boxed unit sales for Windows 7 during the first week of availability were up 234% compared to its predecessor, Windows Vista. However, due to an increased use of discounts such as $50 and $100 Home Premium and Professional upgrades for general consumers, along with $30 Home Premium and Professional upgrades for students meant that dollar sales were up just 82%, which still isnt too shabby at all for Microsoft

Win 7 is GOOD!
Win Vista is CRAP!
That is the difference....
Gates & Co. finally got it right, or at least much less wrong. Vista was a disaster. Microsoft would get valentines from IT departments all over the globe if it would provide a way to do automated upgrades from XP directly to Windows 7. Presently, XP has to go to Vista before it can go to Windows 7.
Good to know, I just purchased a new desktop with the Windows 7...can’t wait to get the box open and see how it works. Have Vista on my laptop....my daughter says it is very good compared to her laptop with vista...wonder why?
I upgraded to Windows 7 a few weeks ago. It’s MUCH better then Vista, goes much more smoothly. Doesn’t crash like Vista did.
Rest assured!
You are in good shape with Win 7!
:-)
No Worries....
The existence of Windows 7 proves that even Microsoft was “going negative” on Vista.
What kind of prices are you guys paying for 7?
Windows 7 is definitely a winner. As for IT departments, why can’t they just do a clean install of Windows 7? Wipe out all that old Vista/XP crap once and for all.
The awkward part is keeping all the applications and settings that were on the computer.
I had Vista, on a Dell E520, 3.04 ghz cpu, and upped the ram to 3gb (tried 4, before finding out 32 bit cannot handle it). And while I thank God for it, it was quite slower than XP (i dual booted), no matter how much i tweaked it. But the Lord upgraded us (i am part of a faith ministry) to a Sony, 2.8ghz, 3gb ram with XP, and while its loaded, it is faster.
I wonder what the advantage of W/7 is? I would like to see more ability to customize, like in Firefox.
When “ahead of its time” means “bloatware that founders a lot of the hardware common to offices, labs, and homes” that is rather faint praise for hasta-la-Vista.
For older and less capable machines I recommend dual-booting with a choice of Ubuntu/XP.
For new boxes I recommend Win7!!!
It wasn't until early 2008 when dual-core CPU machines with 3 to 4 GB of RAM became widely available that performance issues finally went away.
I work in a hospital, and we are probably at least three to five years away from moving off of Windows XP.
The problem is, there are a huge number of applications used in the medical environment, and all of them need to be extensively tested and validated, because many of them have to co-exist on the same platform.
It is a gargantuan task.
The best price I got was $30 for Win 7 Pro through the academic discount program! I paid another $14 to get a back up CD of Win 7 (in addition to a download).

Pretty much.
PC makers were selling some Vista PC’s in 2007 with 512 MB of RAM.
No way you are gonna get any good usability experience with a 512 MB Vista PC.
Then there was the matter of device drives, which were not available for a lot of devices for Vista.
Then there was the annoying UAC. Most of those issues have been fixed with SP2 and current more powerful computers.
